C.J.'1iitham 210 Main Street SENIOR ASSOCIATE Northampton, Massachusetts 01060 Steve T.Drakulich,A.IA ASSOCIATE Ann Lawrence Knox Attention: Frank Sienkiewicz Building Inspector Re: Stairway Repairs Hampton Gardens Apartments Dear Frank: The purpose of this letter is to record the understandings and agreements that were reached in our meeting with Gerard Hughes of Hampton Gardens on September 7, 1993 in your office regarding the Hampton Gardens Stairway repair project. The points that were agreed upon were as follows: 1. The occupancy of the units exiting onto the roof exitways would not be classified as Use Group R-2, but would be classified as Use Group R-3 , one and two family dwelling units. 2. With the R-3 Use classification, the width of the new stairs can be reduced to 36 inches in width as per the Massachusetts State Building Code, Section 816. 2. 1, Exception No. 3 . 3 . Only one handrail is required for the stair since the new stair width is less than 44 inches as per the Massachusetts State Building Code, Section 816 . 5. 4. Sonotubes would be acceptable for the post foundations which are excavated with an auger method so that a mushroom spread of concrete pours out of the bottom of the sonotube, forming an integral footing. 5 .
