Trauma Institute & Child Trauma Institute Inc is a Northampton-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, incorporated in Massachusetts since 2005. Our activities include providing training to mental health professionals and allied professionals, providing intensive trauma-focused psychotherapy, conducting research, publishing books, papers, and therapy materials, and related activities. We train nationally, have offices in several states, and are headquartered here in Northampton, MA. Our activity is primarily educational. Well over half our activity(and revenue) comes from the professional training programs we provide, teaching therapists trauma treatment methods such as EMDR. Then there is the research we conduct, and publish and present on. Then most of our therapy (at present, over 90%in the Northampton location) is provided by (right now, 5) therapists on training fellowships. In the first year of their fellowship they participate in 22 full days of training; they also receive extensive supervision. In other words, this is not a standard psychotherapy practice, it is a training operation that utilizes psychotherapy in the training. Therefore we believe that our proposed use conforms with the current zoning. Also, not sure if this is relevant, but any given therapist only has one therapy client for the entire day. So we don't have a lot of people coming and going every hour.
