Lynn Yams 30 Valley St Northampton, Ma 01060 4eNORTHEAST SOLARENERGY INDEPENDENCE Vreeland Design Associates An integrative approach to design engineering and site planning Date: April 26, 2023 To: Justin Annis NorthEast Solar 136 Elm Street Hatfield, MA 01038 From: David Vreeland, P.E. Vreeland Design Associates Re: Lynn Yanis, 30 Valley Street,Northampton, MA: St ctural assessment of existing house roofs to support proposed PV solar panel arrays. I have investigated the existing roof framing in the areas for t e proposed PV solar panel installations. The original 2-story, 16'x 26' house with a 2-st , 26'x 18' ell off the back was constructed in 1913. 8 PV solar panels are to be installed on t e front southeast facing roof of the house and 9 solar panels on the southwest facing roof of the ell. The house roof is framed with full dimension 2x4 rafters installed 24"on-center, spanning 7'-8"with a 7.5/12 roof pitch. 2x4 ceiling joists are attached to the bottom of the rafters preventing the r of from spreading. The ell roof is framed with full dimension 2x5 rafters installed 24"on-cente spanning 12'-8"with a 5/12 pitch. 2x4 ceiling joists are secured to the bottom of the rafters prey nting the roof from spreading. The roofing is composite asphalt shingles. The ell southwest 2x5 rafters supporting the solar panels have to long of a span to support t e panels and meet the requirements of the current building code Reinforce the existing south est rafters supporting the solar panels by sistering new 2x6 x10' 1 ng,centered on the existing after span, screwed to the existing rafters with 2—2-7/8"HeadLok FlatLok or TrussLok-Z screws at 12"on-center along the length of the 2x6s or 2— 12d nailgun ails at 6"on-center. I have reviewed the mounting details for the proposed PV sol r panel arrays. Based on my calculations and a PV solar panel unit weight of 49f lbs, with the attachment points of the s lar panel arrays placed at a maximum of 4' on center and stagger d to minimize the load to any one rafter, the existing house roof framing and the reinforced sout west rafters of the ell, as outlined above, are adequate to support the proposed PV solar panel a ays and the snow and wind load requirements of the current 9th Edition of the MA State Buildi g Code for the City of Northampton. The unique water seal design is both elevated and encapsulated, delivering redundant layers of protection against water intrusion. In addition, the l twist-on Cap perfectly aligns the rail attachment with the lag bolt to maximize mechanical strength. Twist-On Cap FlashFoot2®'s unique Cap design encapsulates P the lag bolt and locks into place with a simple Three-Tier Water Seal twist. The Cap helps FlashFoot2®delive FlashFoot2®'s seal architecture utilizes superior structural strength,by aligning three layers of protection. An elevated the rail and lag bolt in a concentric platform diverts water away, while a stack of load path. rugged components raises the seal an entire inch. The seal is then fully-encapuslated by the Cap.
