GOVERNOR Northampton, MA 01060
Jane Swift Dear Mr. Patillo,
LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR
• Bob Durand At the request of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Flood Hazard
SECRETARY Management Program (FHMP) of the Massachusetts Department of Environmental
Management (DEM) has agreed to work with communities participating in the National Flood
Peter C.Webber Insurance Program (NFIP)to review and update the Repetitive Loss database. The database,
COMMISSIONER a record of insurance claims filed by policy owners, is maintained by FEMA to identify areas of
flood risk and provide for a more efficient utilization of mitigation resources.
Please find enclosed the NFIP Repetitive Loss Worksheets (AW-501) for each property in the
Town of Northampton contained in the database and directions for making any necessary
corrections. The purpose of these corrections is to ensure that the Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA) has an accurate understanding of the number of insured
structures that have sustained damage from flooding within your community. The corrections
will also enable FEMA and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to gain a clearer picture of
what mitigation efforts have been undertaken by your community. All corrections made by
each community will be reviewed and compiled by the FHMP staff and then forwarded to
FEMA for updating of the database.
Please review and complete the enclosed Repetitive Loss Worksheets. All completed forms
should be mailed to:
DEM-FHMP
