Northampton Fire Department Page: 2\ Incident Report 08/18/2003 Incident #: 03-33-IN Exp. 0 call #: 03-348 f ' Responded to a report of a structure fire at 348 Old Springfield Rd. The report came in as an electrical fire in a light fixture in the ceiling.of a bedroom.The occupant stated that he heard a popping sound and looked in the bedroom and saw sp rks coming from the light fixture. Upon arrival we found light smoke in the bedroom. Sparks were dropping from the light fixture onto the bed igniting it. A line was advanced from E-4 into the building. We had difficulty accessing the attic area. the ceiling was pulled to';knock down the fire. The contents of the attic were removed through the folding stairwell and a line was brought to the attic to effect extinguishment. The building and electrical inspectors were called to the scene. Firefighters Tomoskowicz and Moriarty were placed in charge of the investigation! The investigation determined that the wire going into the light fixture shorted out due to a lack of a proper connector igniting the framing around it. The occupant of the structure were offered assistance in finding shelter bux declined. The structure cannot be reoccupied until' repairs are made. No smoke detector was present. Eire damage was limited to the bedroom and the attic area above it. There was some light charring of the ceiling joists and roof rafters! the sheetrock on the ceiling was removed to gain access to the attic. Brian: I am trying to piece together events that occured at a fire on 348 Old Springfield rd.this past January. I recall both Electrical meters were removed at the time of the fire, (and confirmed by fireman Bob Davis). Some how one of the electrical meters was reinstalled without myknowledge.The cannot provide me with any meaningful information.Therfore if you coul heck the fire rep rt for that fire orr send me a copy to see if this information can be confirmed. Where I am going with this is I would like to have this meter removed.The service entrance cable is frayed and power is running thru the house to an illegal boat dock.No inspections made on the electrical.
