Greetings, isi
After talking a bit with Carolyn two weeks ags d making a careful inspection of the
site, several items have become clear:
1. Attaching to the existing building is our best bet for any additional storage due to
the accessory nature of the structure, and the various FEMA and other regulations
that would come into play for a freestanding boat rack.
2. We have use of the south, east and north sides of the building so some degree.
The south, or water side, is used by the ski team, and is their viewing, staging and
prep area, so cannot be used for boat storage. In any case,the sun exposure
would rapidly deteriorate the shells. The east side is the parking lot, access for the
large overhead doors, and used by the ski team and the rowing team.
3. The roadside, facing Old Springfield Road, has an existing notch in the building
into which our storage could fit. But the property line veers toward the building
along this section. —Hence the setback matter at hand.
4. Our plan is for a set of brackets,really,that would be supported on the existing
building wall, and carry this 5' roof overhang. We will get all necessary
engineering on the construction work, but no new footings are needed.
5. Rick Klein, for Berkshire Design group, is prepared to help us with the NOI as
needed, for this and other repairs that are needed.
6. An integral part of rowing training is the use of small individual boats to develop
boat-handling skills in the most responsive environment. The size of the program
has dictated the full sue of the existing available storage space for the 4 and 8
person rowing shells.
Hopefully these notes will help put the nature of this request into context. Please call
with any questions.
