Vreeland Design Associates Re: Cher Willems, 75 Lyman Rd, Northampton, MA: Structural assessment of new 22'x 23' pool house roof to support proposed solar array. 1 have investigated the framing details for the recently constructed detached 22'x 23' pool house for the proposed PV solar panel installation. The mono-slope roof is framed with 13/4"x 14" LVL rafters installed 24"on-center, spanning 20'-8"with a 1/12 slope. The rafters are supported by 2x6 walls with the studs installed 16"on-center with a double 2x6 top plate. The walls are secured to 8"concrete frost walls. The roofing is standing seam metal panels. 1 have reviewed the mounting details for the proposed arrays. Based on my calculations and a PV panel unit weight of 42± Ibs, with the attachment points of the array placed at a maximum of 4' on center and staggered to minimize the load to any one rafter, the existing roof framing is adequate to support the proposed PV solar array and the snow and wind load requirements of the current MA State Building Code for the City of Northampton. IRONRIDGE XR Rail Family Solar Is Not Always Sunny 1 Over their lifetime, solar panels experience countless ,,41014041;,,, extreme weather events. Not just the worst storms in years, % but the worst storms in 40 years. High winds capable of _ ripping panels from a roof, and snowfalls weighing enough to buckle a panel frame. XR Rails are the structural backbone preventing these results. They resist uplift, protect --. against buckling and safely and efficiently transfer loads into the building structure. 4 ..„ Their superior spanning capability requires fewer roof attachments, ® reducing the number of roof "p. penetrations and the amount " ` of installation time. ` ' -,'''s %....4 --tr.74', ','.., / Force-Stabilizing Curve Sloped roofs generate both vertical and lateral forces on mounting rails which can cause them wg to bend and twist. The curved shape of XR Rails n is specially designed to increase strength in both directions while resisting the twisting. This unique 4,•• . feature ensures greater security during extreme weather and a longer system lifetime. Compatible with Flat&Pitched Roofs Corrosion Resistant Materials XR Rails are IronRidge offers All XR Rails are made of 6000-series Ilk compatible with a range of tilt leg aluminum alloy, then protected with an FlashFoot and options for flat anodized finish.Anodizing prevents surface in I other pitched roof ! 1 roof mounting and structural corrosion, while also providing attachments. applications. a more attractive appearance. i Tech Brief XR Rail Family The XR Rail Family offers the strength of a curved rail in three targeted sizes.
