The new pool is an L-shaped interior pool with depths varying between 3'and 5'. The top of the pool and the floor deck surrounding it is between 3'and 4'above the existing grade prior to construction. Therefore,only a small portion of the 5'deep section of the pool is below existing grade and ground water should never be a problem. Existing grades at the house have a significant slope. New grading is designed to swale all surface water to the east and down the hill. If the pool develops a leak,water will drain to a sub-surface drain at the footing of the house. The backfill material for the pool is clean sand and gravel. There is one foot of stone directly under the pool itself. This will allow free flow of water from the pool to the footing drain. The space in the basement of the house adjacent to the pool is the Pool Equipment Room. There is a drain in the floor of the Pool Equipment Room which will protect the basement from flooding. Even under the worst theoretical conditions, the pool will not float. The water trapped outside the pool and the water in the pool would reach a state of equilibrium. Since the water level on either side of the pool wall would be equal, the pool would not be buoyant. In addition the pool installer will be supplying a hydrostatic gate valve at the pool drain which will allow ground water to flow into an empty pool should there be hydrostatic pressure.
