Sawcut at Existing Concrete Pier
Collin
To facilitate installation of a floor drain vent stack, the contractor sawcut at portion of an existing concrete pier
below the floor level in the new car delivery area that is being constructed. The existing concrete pier supports an
existing pre‐engineered building column that in turn supports the existing roof structure above. The existing
concrete pier extends down to an existing footing below the grade for frost protection. The portion of concrete
removed does not pass directly under the column bearing.
We have reviewed the existing building structure to determine the load that the damaged pier is supporting and
found that the remaining portion of the existing concrete pier that was sawcut still has more than enough capacity
to support the steel column that is bearing on it. It is our professional opinion that the new vent pipe can remain
where it is currently installed, and that the area can be prepared to receive the new concrete floor slab.
If you have any additional concerns, please contact us.
