Section Includes: 1. Owner furnished carpet tiles for installation by Preferred Flooring Contractor in the following areas: a. Pharmacy. B. Related Requirements: 1. Section 01640 - Owner Furnished Products: General procedures related to products furnished by others. 1.2 REFERENCES A. The publications listed below form a part of this specification to the extent referenced. Publications are referenced within the text by the basic designation only. B. Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) 1. CRI 104 - Standard for Installation of Commercial Carpet. 1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Preferred Flooring Contractor: Wal-Mart’s pre-selected contractor responsible for work specified herein, unless otherwise specified. 1.4 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING A. Owner Furnished Product Delivery: Carpet will be delivered to jobsite for Preferred Flooring Contractor to re- ceive on delivery date established by Walmart. B. Product Packaging: Carpet will be shipped in cartons. Manufacturer's published installation instructions will be included in package. C. Acceptance at Site: Preferred Flooring Contractor shall eceive products as specified in Section 01640. Verify quantity of products furnished with Bill of Material provided with products. Report discrepancies in product quan- tity delivered or damage to products delivered to contact specified above. Upon notification by Preferred Flooring Contractor, arrangement will be made for delivery of replacement products. Note description of product quantity discrepancies and/or product damage on Bill of Lading. D. Storage: A container for storage of flooring materials and accessories will be provided by the General Contractor for use by the Preferred Flooring Contractor in accordance with requirements specified in Section 01500. 1. Comply with CRI 104, Section 5, "Storage and Handling." 2. Protect packaged adhesive from temperature cycling and cold temperatures. Keep adhesives away from any ignition source. 3. Do not store roll goods on end. E. Transport, handle, store, and protect products in compliance with the requirements of Section 01600 and manufac- turer’s recommendations. 1.5 REQUIREMENTS OF CONTRACTORS A. Preferred Flooring Contractor shall: 1. comply with all safety and badging requirements of the General Contractor. Not For Construction 09680 - 2 2901 - Northampton, Massachusetts - 1452013 April 21, 2015 2. attend all morning communication meetings (lead installer). 3. track material usage and ensure quantities on hand are sufficient for Work. 4. submit Weekly Flooring Installation Report to Wal-Mart Construction Manager each Friday. Contact Wal- Mart Construction Manager for forms. 5. submit any required Flooring Add-on Order forms. Expedited freight charges incurred by add-on orders will be charged to Preferred Flooring Contractor. Contact Wal-Mart Construction Manager for required forms. 6. return to project Site no less than (4) days prior to Re-Grand Opening for all required corrections related to work specified herein. 7. submit Flooring Return Request form to appropriate Supplier and ensure receipt of required Return Author- ization documents. B. General Contractor shall be responsible for disposal of opened adhesive containers. 1.6 SITE CONDITIONS A. Maintain areas to receive carpet at constant minimum temperature of 45 to 50 degrees F for minimum three days prior to and during installation. 1. Comply with carpet manufacturer's surface moisture requirements. 2. Provide negative alkalinity at substrate. B. Provide continuous ventilation during and after installation. C. Do not install carpet until wet work in spaces is complete and dry, and ambient temperature and humidity condi- tions are maintained at the levels indicated for Project when occupied for its intended use. D. Provide lighting levels of 80 foot candles measured mid-height at substrate surface. E. General: Comply with CRI 104, Section 6.1, "Site Conditions; Temperature and Humidity." F. Do not install adhesive applied carpet over new concrete slabs until slabs have cured and are sufficiently dry to bond with adhesive and concrete slabs have pH range recommended by manufacturer. 1.7 SCHEDULING A. Schedule installation to prevent damage to carpet by subsequent construction activities. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 OWNER FURNISHED PRODUCTS AND ACCESSORIES A. Under provisions of Section 01640, Owner will furnish carpet products and accessories for installation by Pre- ferred Flooring Contractor. Descriptions and specifications of Owner furnished products hereinafter are included as information to General Contractor only and not to be considered as General Contractor requirements unless oth- erwise stated. 2.2 CARPET A. Carpet will be provided as applicable as shown on the drawings. B. C-1 (Pharmacy): Cushion Back Carpet Tile: Geometry by Interface, or match existing carpet which is to remain. CushonBac Plus Tile, tufted tip sheared pattern loop, 100% Solutia yarn. 1. Tile Size: 50 cm x 50 cm. (19.69 in. square). 2. Pattern: Geometry. 3. Color: Optical. Adhesive: Water resistant type, VOC less than 50 g/l, as recommended by carpet tile manufacturer. 2. Primer: Type recommended by adhesive and carpet manufacturer; compatible with substrate. 3. Transition Strip: a. Pharmacy: Rubber transition strip. 2.3 CONTRACTOR FURNISHED ACCESSORIES A. Subfloor Filler (Cementitious Based Underlayment): Provide one of the following: 1. Ardex SD-F Feather Finish, by Ardex Engineered Cements; Contact: Jesse David, (888) 512-7339. 2. Levelayer l, by Dayton Superior. 3. No. 547 UniPro Universal Underlayment by W.W. Henry. Contact: Dave Fabyonic (724) 203-5035. B. Contraction/Construction Joint Filler: Epolith P or G, two-part, 100% solids, flexible epoxy joint filler, by BASF Building Systems, (800) 433-9517. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Examine surfaces and adjacent areas where products will be installed and verify that surfaces conform to product manufacturer's requirements for substrate conditions. Do not proceed until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 1. Substrate Surface: Clean, true, and free of irregularities. B. Beginning of installation indicates acceptance of substrate conditions. 3.2 PREPARATION A. Remove existing carpet and adhesive. B. Prepare substrate for product installation in accordance with manufacturer's published instructions. C. Properly prepare and fill contraction and construction joints under carpeting with cementitious based underlayment subfloor filler or epoxy subfloor filler as specified in Part 2 above. D. Vacuum clean surfaces free of loose particles. 3.3 INSTALLATION A. Install in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. B. Comply with CRI 104, Section as applicable for the application method used. C. Install transition strips at perimeter or at locations shown on Drawings. 3.4 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL A. Inspect installation, pattern matching, and attachment to substrate. B. Correct deficiencies in Work which inspection indicates are not in compliance with Contract Documents. 3.5 CLEANING AND PROTECTION A. Remove excess adhesive, seam sealer, and other surface blemishes using cleaner recommended by carpet manufacturer. 2. Remove yarns that protrude from carpet surface. 3. Vacuum carpet using commercial machine with face-beater element. B. Protect installed carpet to comply with CRI 104, Section 15 "Protection of Indoor Installations." C. Protect carpet against damage from construction operations and placement of equipment and fixtures during the remainder of construction period. Use protection methods indicated or recommended in writing by carpet manu- facturer. END OF SECTION
