Section Includes: 1. Owner furnished porcelain floor tile at Entry for installation by Preferred Flooring Contractor. B. Related Sections: 1. Section 01640 - Owner Furnished Products: General procedures related to Wal-Mart furnished products. 2. Division 3 - Concrete: Flooring substrate finish and preparation. 3. Section 07900 - Joint Sealers: Sealant furnished and installed by General Contractor at tile penetrations and control/construction joints. 4. Section 09310 - Ceramic Tile: Tile at locations other than Entry and Recycling Center. 5. Section 09330 – Quarry Tile. 1.2 REFERENCES A. Conform to ANSI A137.1. 1.4 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Owner Furnished Product Delivery: Wal-Mart will deliver products to jobsite for Preferred Flooring Contractor to receive on delivery date established by Preferred Flooring Contractor. B. Acceptance at Site: Preferred Flooring Contractor shall receive Wal-Mart furnished products as specified in Section 01640. 1. Verify quantity of products furnished with Bill of Material provided with Wal-Mart furnished products. 2. Check material for consistency of run item and shade numbers. 3. Report discrepancies in product quantity delivered or damage to products delivered to Wal-Mart Construction Manager within 24 hours. 4. Upon notification by Preferred Flooring Contractor, Wal-Mart will arrange for delivery of replacement products. Storage: A container for storage of tile and accessories will be provided by the General Contractor for use by the Preferred Flooring Contractor in accordance with requirements specified in Section 01500. 1. Store materials in a secure area to prevent loss due to theft or damage. 2. Store flooring on original pallets with no multiple stacking of pallets. D. Transport, handle, store, and protect products in compliance with the requirements of Section 01600 and manufacturer's recommendations. E. Prevent damage or contamination to materials by water, freezing, foreign matter, and other causes. 1.5 SEQUENCING AND SCHEDULING A. Preferred Flooring Contractor shall attend Pre-Possession Meeting at site and time determined by Wal-Mart Construction Manager to assist in determination of flooring installation and finishing schedule. B. All work shall be done in association with approved interruption of the Store’s normal operations. 1.6 SITE CONDITIONS A. Do not install adhesives in a closed, unventilated environment. B. Maintain 50 degrees F during installation of mortar materials. 1.7 REQUIREMENTS OF CONTRACTORS A. Preferred Flooring Contractor shall: 1. comply with all safety and badging requirements of the General Contractor. 2. attend all morning communication meetings (lead installer). 3. track material usage and ensure quantities on hand are sufficient for Work. 4. submit any required Flooring Add-on Order forms. Expedited freight charges incurred by add-on orders will be charged to Preferred Flooring Contractor. Contact Wal-Mart Construction Manager for required forms. 5. return to project Site no less than (4) days prior to Re-Grand Opening for all required corrections related to work specified herein. 6. submit Flooring Return Request form to appropriate Supplier and ensure receipt of required Return Authorization documents. B. General Contractor shall be responsible for disposal of opened containers. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.1 OWNER FURNISHED PRODUCTS A. Unless otherwise specified, provisions specified herein for products furnished by Owner are included as requirements to Supplier of products to be furnished and are included as information only to Preferred Flooring Contractor. B. Under provisions of Section 01640, Wal-Mart will furnish the following for installation by the Preferred Flooring Contractor: 1. Ceramic Tile CT-2 including setting materials, additives, leveling compound, transition strip, and accessories as required for the installation of CT-2 tile. 2. Ceramic tile CT-3 base including setting materials and accessories required for installation. 3. Wal-Mart furnished products shall be as specified in the MATERIALS paragraph below. 4. Products will be supplied to the job site as a bundle complete and ready for installation. 5. Laticrete International, Bethany, CT. 2.3 MATERIALS A. Floor tile: 1. CT-2 (Red): a. DP1224 River Red, by StonePeak. 2. CT-3 (Red): Cove Base. a. Same as CT-2. B. Mortar: 1. Dry Set Portland Cement Mortar: ANSI A118.1. 2. Latex-Portland Cement Mortar: ANSI A118.4 C. SpectraLOCK Grout by Laticrete. 1. G-2 (Dark Gray): Platinum #42. D. Grout Cleaning Additive: Laticrete SpectraLOCK Pro Cleaning Additive. E. Floor Leveling Compounds: Cementitious, quick-setting, trowelable or self-leveling floor topping over concrete substrate specifically formulated for placement as a leveling underlayment for floor covering. Transition edge strip between concrete slab or VCT and ceramic tile: Reno Ramp AERP-125B90 by Schluter Systems, Plattsburgh, NY. 3-1/2" x 1/2" satin anodized aluminum sloped transition ramp. 2.4 MORTAR MIX AND GROUT A. Mix mortars and grouts to comply with requirements of referenced standards and manufacturers for proportioning of materials, water or additive content; type of mixing equipment, selection of mixer speeds, mixing containers, and mixing time to produce mortars and grouts of uniform quality with optimum performance characteristics for application indicated. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Examine surfaces and adjacent areas where products will be installed and verify that surfaces conform to product manufacturer's requirements for substrate conditions. Beginning of installation indicates acceptance of substrate conditions. 3.2 PREPARATION - GENERAL A. General Contractor shall cover and protect merchandise and racking to prevent damage or contamination of stored products, and shall provide dust drapes as required to protect merchandise from dust or debris. Coordinate sequencing plan for tile work with Wal-Mart Construction Manager to ensure adequate protection is provided in area that work specified herein is performed. B. Comply with the requirements of Section 02023. 3.3 PREPARATION – CONCRETE SUBSTRATE A. Interior Concrete Slab: 1. Vacuum clean existing substrate and damp clean. 2. Seal substrate surface cracks with filler. 3. Level existing substrate surfaces in accordance with TCA installation requirements and remove peaks or valleys using floor leveling compound specified. Prime, clean and prepare concrete surface as required by manufacturer and apply leveling compound in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. B. Prepare substrate surfaces which do not need joint repair with sealers or conditioners as recommended by adhesive manufacturer. 3.4 INSTALLATION A. ANSI Tile Installation Standards: Comply with parts of ANSI A108 Series "Specifications for Installation of Ceramic Tile" that apply to types of setting and grouting materials shown and specified. B. TCA Installation Guidelines: TCA's "Handbook for Ceramic Tile Installation." Comply with applicable TCA installation methods. C. Transition Strip: Install transition strip at transitions between ceramic tile and concrete or VCT. Install during tile placement in accordance with edge strip manufacturer’s instructions. D. Lay tile to pattern indicated. Do not interrupt tile pattern through openings. 1. Lay tile to grid pattern shown at vestibule. Customers must have access to at least half the vestibule entrance at all times. E. Cut and fit tile tight to penetrations. Form corners and bases neatly. Align floor and base joints. F. Place tile joints uniform in width, subject to variance in tolerance allowed in tile size. Make joints watertight, without voids, cracks, excess mortar, or excess grout. G. Sound tile after setting. Replace hollow sounding units. H. Expansion Joints: Provide tile expansion joints at control/construction joints in concrete slab. Keep joints free of mortar or grout. 1. Installation Method: TCA EJ171. I. Allow tile to set for a minimum of 48 hours prior to grouting. J. Grout tile joints. 1. Grout space shall be 1/8-inch for all tile joints. General Contractor shall apply sealant to junction of tile and dissimilar materials, at tile penetrations, and at tile expansion joints. 3.5 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL A. Inspect ceramic tile installation, joints, grout line alignment, and attachment to substrate. B. Correct deficiencies in Work which inspection indicates are not in compliance with Contract Documents. 3.6 CLEANING A. Remove excess mortar and grout from floor, base, and wall surfaces without damage. B. On completion of placement and grouting, clean all ceramic tile surfaces so they are free of foreign matter. 1. Initially clean and remove grout residue from tile as soon as possible according to tile and grout manufacturer's written instructions. Use cleaners recommended by tile and grout manufacturers and only after determining that cleaners are safe to use by testing on samples of tile and other surfaces to be cleaned. Protect metal surfaces and plumbing fixtures from effects of cleaning. Flush surfaces with clean water before and after cleaning. 2. Begin final cleaning approximately 1 hour after initial cleaning of the grout. Mix cleaning additive to 2 gallons of clean, cool water. Use a white scrub pad to lightly scrub apart any of the leftover residue remaining on the surface of the tile. Drag a clean, damp sponge diagonally over the scrubbed surfaces to remove any froth and residue. Rinse sponge often and change water every 50 square feet of surface. Allow cleaned areas to dry and inspect entire surface of tile. Repeat if haze remains. 3. If haze remains 24 hours after installation, clean surfaces using straight white vinegar or bleaching type cleanser by methods described in preceding paragraph. C. Perform final cleaning of tile with cleaning materials recommended by tile manufacturer one day prior to Date of Substantial Completion. 3.7 PROTECTION A. Protect installed tile work with kraft paper or other heavy covering during construction period to prevent staining, damage, and wear. If recommended by tile manufacturer, apply coat of neutral protective cleaner to completed tile base and floors. B. Prohibit traffic from floor finish for 72 hours after installation.
