RE: People’s Institute Roof Project
At your request I have reviewed the condition of the parapets and the chimneys at the People’s Institute, 38 Goth-
ic Street, Northampton, MA.
You commented that it is intended that pointing of the masonry will occur before the project is completed.
I noticed that in at least one location the cap stone on the parapets was severely cracked and had moved from its
original location. This will require repairs to stabilize it, and should satisfactory repairs not be possible, a replace-
ment of the cap stone(s) will be required. Simple caulking of the crack is not a valid repair.
A final inspection by me will be required before a final sign-off can be achieved.
I am requesting that building official waive the submission of construction control documents and other data as
such that review of construction documents is not necessary to obtain compliance with the building code.
