The installing sprinkler system contractor shall contract such design work, as part of their overall work scope. The reviewing engineer shall be the engineer of record. SECTION 4 – FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS TO BE INSTALLED Installation of new CPVC wet sprinkler system to accommodate the basement, first, second floor, and third floors. Installation of new galvanized steel dry sprinkler system to accommodate the attic. SECTION 5 – FEATURES USED IN THE DESIGN METHODOLOGY The floors 1-3 are designed for residential occupancy in all areas with sprinklers spaced to cover a maximum of 256 sq ft and calculated for a .10 density over the four most demanding heads. All sidewalls are spaced for 16’x16’ and all concealed pendents are 16’x16’. Floors 1 and 2 combustible concealed areas are designed for light hazard occupancy in all areas with sprinklers to cover a maximum of 196 sq ft and calculated for a .10 density over 1112 sq ft. All sprinklers are spaced for 14’x14’. The basement is designed for ordinary hazard group 1 occupancy with semi-recessed sprinklers spaced to cover a maximum of 130 sq ft and calculated for a .15 density over 912 sq ft. The attic is designed for light hazard occupancy with BB1 sprinklers spaced to cover 360 sq ft and calculated for a .10 density over the seven most demanding heads. All BB1s are spaced no more than 6’ apart and can cover up to a 60’ span. SECTION 6 – SPECIAL CONSIDERATION AND DESCRIPTION No deviations are intended 901.2.1 (1.a.ii) SEQUENCE OF OPERATION SECTION 1 In the event of a fire, one or more sprinklers will operate. The installed network of piping will supply water to the operating sprinklers. When a sprinkler operates (fuses), the flow of water will activate the flow switch and the existing electric bell will sound. The flow switch will send an electric signal to the alarm panel, simultaneously sending an alarm (installed by others) to the fire department and will sound an audible alarm within the building alerting the occupants. The building is not equipped with a standpipe system. To increase sprinkler system pressure, the fire department will be able to connect hoses from a pumper truck to the existing fire department connection. 901.2.1 (1.a.iii) TESTING CRITERIA SECTION 1 - Testing Criteria Upper Ridge Flats – 73 Village Hill Road Northampton, Ma 01053 October 01st 2015 The sprinkler system shall be tested in accordance with NFPA pamphlet 13.
