He shall also exercise care and supervision of his employees in regard to proper and expeditiouslaying out of his work.B.The Electrical Contractor shall be held responsible for any injuries or damage done to the building premises or adjoiningproperty or to other Contractors' work resulting from the execution of his part of the work in any manner whatsoever; and incase of dispute arising as to the extent or share of responsibility incurred by the Electrical Contractor, it is agreed between theOwner and the Electrical Contractor that such liability and extent of damage shall be finally determined by the Architect whosedecision shall be final and binding on both parties to the Contract for the work in question.C.The arrangement of all piping, duct work, conduit, wire and cable indicated on the Drawings is diagrammatic only, andindicates the minimum requirements of this work. Conditions at the building shall determine the actual arrangement of runs,bends, offsets, etc. The Electrical Contractor shall lay out all his work and be responsible for the accuracy thereof. Conditionsat the building shall be the determining factor for all measurements.D.The Electrical Contractor shall be responsible for all equipment and materials installed under this Section until the finalacceptance of the project by the Owner.E.Before submitting his bid, the Electrical Contractor shall visit the site with the Drawings and Specifications and shall becomethoroughly familiar with all conditions affecting his work since the Electrical Contractor will be held responsible for anyassumption he may make in regard thereto.1.05QUALITY ASSURANCEA.Equality of materials or articles other than those named or described in this Section will be determined in accordance with theprovisions of the General Requirements, except that substitutions will only be considered for items where the words, "orequal" appear in product specifications and as approved by the Architect and Owner..1.06SUBMITTALSA.Before ordering materials shipped to the job, the Electrical Contractor shall submit to the Architect six (6) sets of cataloguecuts, manufacturers' data sheets, or Shop Drawings, giving all details, dimensions, capacities, etc. of all materials to befurnished. The review of Shop Drawings by the Architect shall not relieve the Electrical Contractor from any obligation toperform the work strictly in accordance with the Contract Drawings and Specifications. The responsibility for errors in ShopDrawings shall remain with the Contractor.1.07PERMITS, FEES, AND INSPECTIONSA.The Electrical Contractor shall secure all permits and pay all fees required for his work. He shall be required to secure allother permits and pay all other fees and charges incidental to the proper carrying out of the Contract. He is to assume allresponsibility regarding the observance of the rules and regulations so far as they relate to his part of the work.1.08LIGHT AND POWERA.The General Contractor will furnish and install temporary light and power as specified in Division 1.1.09PRODUCT HANDLINGA.The Electrical Contractor shall provide for the delivery of all his materials and fixtures to the building site when required, so asto carry on his work efficiently and to avoid delaying his work and that of other trades.1.10WORK CONCEALEDA.All cable and raceway shall be installed concealed in all areas except storage rooms, closets, and mechanical or electricalequipment rooms. Where conduits are required to run exposed, they shall be run straight and level, parallel or perpendicularto the lines of the building.1.11OPERATING INSTRUCTIONSA.Furnish the Architect, for his approval, three (3) copies of an Operation and Maintenance Manual. Inscribe the followingidentification on the cover: the words, "Operation and Maintenance Manual", the name and location of the equipment or thebuilding, the name of the Contractor, and the Contract number. The manual shall have a Table of Contents with tab sheetsplaced before each Section. The instructions shall be legible and easily read, with large sheets of Drawings folded in. Themanuals shall be bound in hard binders or an approved equivalent. The manual shall include description of systems,description of start up, operation, and shutdown procedures for each item of equipment, schedule of adjustment, care, androutine maintenance for each item of equipment, wiring and control diagrams with data to explain detailed operation andcontrol of each item of equipment, panel schedules, list of recommended spare parts, copies of all service contracts, and a listof all names, addresses, and phone numbers of all Contractors as well as the local representative for each item of equipment.1.12GUARANTEEA.The Electrical Contractor shall guarantee the satisfactory operation of his work in all parts for a period of one (1) year afterdate of final acceptance, and shall agree to promptly repair or replace any items of his work which are found to be defectiveduring this period.B.The Electrical Contractor shall pay for repair of damage to the building caused by defects in his work and for repair to plaster,wood, and other materials or equipment caused by replacement or repairs to the entire satisfaction of the Architect.1.13CUTTING AND PATCHINGA.Cutting and/or drilling of all openings and holes required for the installation of electrical apparatus in the building, shall beperformed by the General Contractor where opening is to be greater than ´ All cutting and/or drilling of holes less than ´where required for the installation of electrical apparatus shall be performed by the electrical contractor. All work andmaterials shall be installed in such a manner and at such time to keep cutting and patching to a minimum. Cutting and/ordrilling of structural supports (ie. beams or joists) is not allowed without written approval by the Architect. Location foropenings, etc. shall be checked by the Electrical Contractor, and error due to failure to co-ordinate work with other divisionsshall be the responsibility of the Electrical Contractor failing to coordinate, who shall make the corrections at his own expense.B.Work shall include furnishing and locating sleeves or inserts required before the new walls are built, or be responsible for thecost of cutting and patching required for conduit and equipment where sleeves were not installed or where incorrectly located.The Electrical Contractor shall do all drilling required for the installation of hangers.C.Patching of all holes, after installation of piping or equipment, shall be performed by the General Contractor or appropriatetradesmen.D.All pipe cutting or threading shall be done in a location approved by the Owner.E.No pipe cutting or threading shall be done in areas where completed concrete floor slab is to remain in finishes or be paintedlater. Should this area be necessary, the Electrical Contractor shall cover the entire working area with canvas tarpaulins in anapproved manner.1.14RECORD DRAWINGSA.Submit Record Drawings as specified in Division 1.PART 2 - MATERIALS2.01RACEWAYSA.Electrical metallic tubing may be used for all raceways run in walls or partitions, run exposed inside the building mechanicalspaces, or run concealed in or above furred spaces unless otherwise specified above. Electrical metallic tubing shall complywith the latest applicable requirements of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association. Couplings, connectors, andfittings for electrical metallic tubing used in this manner shall be of steel construction, set screw type.B.Intermediate metallic conduit shall be used for in areas subject to moisture and exteior locations, and all other areas exceptwhere noted otherwies. Couplings and connectors shall be threaded type fittings, and steel construction.C.Flexible Steel Conduit shall be used for final connections to motors or other removable equipment to facilitate removal andconnections. For wet locations flexible steel conduit shall liquidtight flexible steel conduit with watertight fittings.2.02CONDUCTORSA.Conductors shall be 98% conductivity copper, Type THHN/THWN, with 600 volt insulation, and shall be of types indicatedbelow unless otherwise shown on the plans. Aluminum conductors shall not be used.B.Branch circuit wiring shall be 2#12 and 1#12 in 3/4" conduit to 20 Amp, single pole circuit breaker in the new panelboardunless noted otherwise or required for switching. Where a device or equipment is listed at a rating in access of 20 Amps, thewire size shall have the same or larger ampere rating based on MEC Table 310.16, using the column for copper conductorUDWLQJVDWƒ&C.Branch circuit wiring located above lay in tile ceilings or fished in stud partitions may be Type MC steel jacketed cable; singleand multi-circuit home runs shall be raceway and wire as specified.2.03OUTLET AND JUNCTION BOXESA.Outlet boxes and covers shall be galvanized or sheradized pressed steel unless otherwise noted or required by the NationalElectrical Code, and shall be as required for their use.B.Surface mounted outlet boxes shall be die cast aluminum Type FD boxes. Boxes installed on the exterior of the building shallalso have weatherproof cover plates and cover plate gasketing. Receptacle weatherproof cover plates shall be die castaluminum raintight while in use type with lockable tab.C.Pull and junction boxes, whether surface or flush, shall be galvanized code gauge.G.Pull and splice boxes not indicated on the Drawings shall be provided as required by the National Electrical Codes.2.04WIRING DEVICESA.The Electrical Contractor shall install devices where shown on the plans. Finish color for all standard devices to be white.Finish color for receptacles shall be white. All unused boxes shall be furnished with blank plates. All switches, outlets anddevice covers shall be brushed stainless steel.1.Duplex Receptacles fed from standard panel - 20 amp, 125 volt with grounding screw, side and back wired. To be LevitonCat. No. 5352-W, or equal.2.Light Switches, Single Pole - 20 amp, 120/277 volt, back and side wired, Leviton Cat. No. 12212, or equal.3.Wall Occupancy sensor (type ³:´ to be Sensor Switch Model No. WSD-PDT-V-W; passive infrared + microphonics,single pole, wall mount, line voltage device.4.Low Voltage Ceiling Occupancy sensor (type ³/96´ to be sensor Switch Model No. CM-PDT; passive infrared +microphonics, single pole, ceiling box mounted, low voltage device. Include one Power Pack model No. PP-20 per controlcircuit.2.05LIGHTING FIXTURESA.Furnish and install lighting fixtures on all light outlets shown on plans. All lighting fixtures to have label of UnderwritersLaboratories, Inc. Fixtures to be complete in all respects with all required glassware and lamps. All lamps to be new. Furnishand install all required hardware to fit in all type ceilings. Fixtures are to be cleaned after lamps and diffusers are installed.Any chipped, cracked or otherwise defective material shall be replaced.B.Fluorescent ballasts shall be solid state low harmonic electronic type, approvable for use on their system by local the localutiltiy comapny. Fixture/lamp combinations for which electronic ballasts are not available shall be high power factor, energyefficient magnetic type, complete with automatic reset thermal protector, and shall be CBM certified.C.All fixtures to be independently supported from building structure.2.07PANELBOARDSA.Circuit breakers shall be quick-make, quick-break, thermal-magnetic, trip indicating, and have common trip on all multi-polebreakers. Trip indication shall be clearly shown by the breaker handle taking position between "ON" and "OFF" when thebreaker is tripped. Connections to the bus shall be bolt-on.C.Bus bar connections to the branch circuit breaker shall be the "distributed phase" or "phase sequence" type. Allcurrent-carrying parts of the bus assembly shall be plated. Main ratings shall be as shown on the panelboard schedule.D.Terminals for feeder conductors to the panelboard mains and neutral shall be UL listed as suitable for the type of conductorspecified. Terminals for branch circuit wiring, both breaker and neutral, shall be UL listed as suitable for the type of conductorspecified.E.Panelboard circuit numbering shall be such that starting at the top, odd numbers shall be used in sequence down the left-handside and even numbers shall be used in sequence down the right-hand side.F.A circuit directory frame and card with a clear plastic covering shall be provided on the inside of the door. The directory cardshall provide a space at least 1/4" high by 3" long or equivalent for each circuit. The directory shall be typed to identify theload fed by each circuit. Hand written directories will not be acceptable.G.Panelboard trim shall be door-in-door type with full length piano hinges.PART 3 - INSTALLATION3.01GENERAL INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTSA.The Electrical Contractor shall verify all measurements and shall be responsible for the correctness of same. No allowancewill be made for differences between actual measurements and those shown on plans.B.The locations of outlets, apparatus, and equipment are approximate only and the runs of feeders, mains, and branches arenot necessarily to be made exactly as shown on the plans. The exact locations of such work shall be determined after fullconsideration has been given to work of other trades and without changes in the design of the systems. The entire installationshall conform to the latest issue of the Massachusetts Electrical Code and local inspection authorities.3.02GROUNDINGA.Except where specifically indicated otherwise, all exposed non-current carrying metallic parts of electrical equipment, metallicraceway systems, grounding conductor in non-metallic raceways and neutral conductor of the wiring system shall begrounded. The ground connection shall be made at the main service equipment.B.The Electrical Contractor shall furnish and install all material required for the grounding and/or bonding in the building of allequipment, power and lighting systems installed under this Contract.C.Provide and install bonding and grounding conductors with approved termination where required, conforming with the latestMassachusetts Electrical Code and other applicable specification standards.3.03CONDUIT AND FITTINGSA.All conduit shall be installed so as to provide the straightest possible run with not more than the equivalent of three 90o bendsin a single run. Where more bends are necessary, the Electrical Contractor shall provide suitable pull boxes.B.Conduit shall be fished and cleaned and dry before pulling wires and shall be suitably protected against entrance of dirt andmoisture during construction.C.Ends of all conduits shall be reamed and all joints made waterproof. Connections to junction boxes shall be double locknutand bushing, using insulated bushings on conduit 1-1/4" or larger. Grounding bushings shall be provided at all panelconnections.D.Conduit connections to motor frames shall have minimum of 18" of flexible steel conduit to eliminate vibrations and noisebeing transferred to other parts of the building, with cable jumper across greenfield and fittings.3.04OUTLET AND JUNCTION BOXESA.Receptacle boxes, unless otherwise noted, shall be approximately 18" above finished floor, aligned above or below closestblock course, except at locations where wall mounted equipment precludes this mounting height. At such locations,receptacle height shall be as directed by the Architect. Switch outlets shall be 48" above finished floor, unless aligned aboveor below closest block course. The Electrical Contractor shall check with the Architectural and Structural Plans forinterferences.B.Junction and outlet boxes, where exposed to the weather and wet locations, shall be of the threaded hub type and providedwith watertight screw-on cover and gasket.C.Pull boxes shall be adequate size to accommodate the conductors installed therein without excessive bending of theconductors, which would damage the conductor insulation.3.05EQUIPMENT INSTALLATIONA.All equipment furnished under this Section shall be installed in accordance with its manufacturer's printed installationinstructions, whether so shown on the Drawings or not, and all labor and materials required to accomplish this shall befurnished by the Electrical Contractor and be included in his bid.3.06TESTINGA.Balancing Loads:1.Circuits shall be connected to the panelboards so that the total load is distributed equally between each line and neutralto within ten percent. Branch circuits shall be balanced on their own panelboards, and feeder loads balanced on the maindistribution panel. Reasonable load testing shall be arranged for verification if requested by the Public WorksDepartment.3.07FIRE SAFINGA.Work Included: Provide labor, materials, and equipment necessary to complete the work including, but not limited to thefollowing:1.Fire safing at all penetrations through fire barriers.2.Fire safing at all penetrations through smoke barriers.3.Extent of fire and smoke barriers as indicated on the Architectural Drawings.4.Fire safing at all penetrations through floors, shafts, corridor walls, stairway walls, mechanical rooms, electrical rooms,vaults, storage rooms, kitchen, machine rooms, outdoor storage rooms, and receiving rooms.B.Safing Insulation1.Fire safing insulation shall be Thermafiber as manufactured by USG Interiors, Inc. or Architect-Engineer approved equal,4" minimum thickness by the required full length and width, or as indicated on the Drawings.2.Provide incidental galvanized steel clip anchors.C.Seal Compound: At "poke-through" openings, apply "Firecode" seal compound as manufactured by USG Interiors, Inc., orapproved equal, over Thermafiber fire safing.D.Preparation1.At all fire rated assemblies, prepare all penetrations for pipes.E.Application1.Install approved fire safing insulation of proper size leaving no voids. Compress and friction fit fire safing and useattachment clips where necessary.2.Seal completely around all openings and over the fire safing insulation with sealing compound.3.
