RE: Galbraith Demo Site - Tree Protection
Lyndon Tree Care & Landscaping has been hired by 1924, LLC & Historic Round Hill Summit,
LLC, to complete the removal and pruning of selected trees in the Clarke School
Redevelopment Project. I have also been asked to oversee the protection of the following trees
in the Galbraith demo, as previously reviewed and advised by the Northampton Tree Warden.
The following outlines the plan for ensuring the proper protection of selected trees within the
construction zone. My company is not responsible for installation of this protection, but I am on
call with the property owner and site contractor to advise on any changes as needed to the
following plan.
Trunk protection: To protect the trunks from mechanical
damage, 2x4 wood planks (approx. 2” thick) shall be
installed with foam sheeting and straps to secure, as shown
in the figure to the right.
Fencing: In areas where a Tree Protection Zone (TPZ) needs to be established, a chain-link
construction fence shall be installed out to the drip-line of each tree; or, the construction zone
shall be adjusted by moving the construction fencing outsize of the TPZ.
One additional consideration is the 42” oak near the gymnasium brick wall, which may benefit
from air excavation and selective root pruning to prevent undue damage from excavation. This
tree will be examined again at a later point in the demolition process if deemed necessary.
