Please review the set and let me know if you have any questions, comments of corrections. If it looks good, I will stamp them. I went back into the code review by TDA for the space above. and in particular the reasoning for allowing the new exterior windows. When I read through it,the comments on opening protectives seems to imply that because this is not a change of use to a higher hazard classification, exterior opening protectives are not required. These comments come from Chapter Nine which was the chapter regarding change of use(now its Chapter 10). This renovation is not a change of use(nor was that project)and typically this chapter would not be referenced. That said, I have not found anything in the existing building code under the other relevant chapters that specifically address new openings in existing exterior walls. There is a comment in the existing building code under 803.6 Fire Resistance Ratings that notes: ' Plans...and other data shall be submitted indicating which building elements (windows)...the applicant is requesting the code official review and approve for determination of applying the current building code fire-resistance ratings: It is very vague and I think this is on purpose so that the building inspector has some leeway. There are already existing windows in that wall, it does not seem to me that adding this one window makes the building any less safe, however, it seems that this new window is something we need the building inspector to approve specifically. If this were a new exterior wall, because it is less than 3'from the property line, new windows would not be allowed per Table 705.8. 1 am not really sure where the building inspector will land on this but I suggest we submit the plans and let him make a judgement. Let me know If you think otherwise. Thanks!and Happy 4m of July! On small projects like this the MEP contractors typically provide any required documentation to the building department as we do not have engineers engaged on this project. Before I include this information on the documents I want to be sure that you agree with this approach. Thanks and have a good weekend.
