to support proposed solar array.
I have reviewed the house plans and the roof truss design for the proposed PV solar panel
installation.The new, 34'-6"x 61'-6", 1-story, ranch style house with walk out basement and
attached garage was constructed in 2017. 35 PV solar panels are to be installed on the back
southeast facing house roof. The house roof is framed with 2x6 top chord modified Queenpost
design roof trusses, designed and manufactured by UFP Belchertown, LLC, installed 24"on-
center, spanning 34', with an 8/12 roof pitch. The trusses have been designed for a 40 psf roof
snow load, a 10 psf dead load on the top chord, and a 100 mph wind load. The roofing is standing
seam metal secured to 5/8"OSB roof sheathing.
I have reviewed the mounting details for the proposed array. Based on a PV solar panel unit
weight of 42f lbs, with the attachment points of the array placed at a maximum of 4' on center and
staggered to minimize the load to any one roof truss, the roof framing is adequate to support the
proposed PV solar arrays and the snow and wind load requirements of the current MA State
Building Code.
