The Northampton Board of Appeals will hold a public hearing
at 7:30 p.m. on July 17, 1985 in COUNCIL CHAMBERS, WALLACE J. PUCHALSKI
MUNICIPAL BUILDING on the request of ROBERT THOMAS for Special Permits
and a Variance under the provisions of Section 9.3, Page 9.1 and 9.2,
Section 7.2 (15), Page 7.3 and Section 7.5, Page 7.5 of the Zoning

Enclosed please find 12 executed copies each of the amended application
for zoning relief for the proposed Ford dealership on Damon Road.
The only changes are that the name of the applicant has changed to
Robert Thomas, individually, and on the special permit application, the
proposed structural changes are noted. On an extra copy of each I have
highlighted the changes. This has not yet been published so I have not
included an additional application fee. If any is due, please advise.

(1) The installation of the primary ground sign (B-Corporate
sign) at a lower height would create a traffic hazard both for
Damon Road and Interstate-91 users. The lot is irregular in shape
and is surrounded on three sides by roadways: Interstate-91 ,
Damon Road, and Industrial Drive. To move the existing building
to allow for a different layout would impose a severe financial
hardship on the petitioner. Allowing additional height would be
for the benefit of the public.
(2) The primary ground sign (B-Corporate sign) is marginally
over 100 square feet (118. 93 sq. ft. ) if at all, and is the
standard sign throughout the world. Inability to use this specific
sign will cause the loss of the franchise.
(3) Due to the lot being surrounded by the said three roads,
the sign is necessarily close to the roadway on the Industrial
Drive side so that traffic will not become unduly congested, and
vehicles misdirected. It is for this reason that it must be close
to the street and have the "Ford" logo on it. Failureto allow the
placement of such sign would create a traffic hazard and impose a
safety hardship on the petitioner and patrons of the petitioner.
