Both the roof structure information and the information on the proposed PV panels are attached to this letter for reference. You are proposing to erect PV panels on the south side of the roof of the house.The house is a two story colonial.The house measures approximately 24'x25'.The roof is symmetric about the peak and the roof slope is approximately 45-degrees.The roof is supported by 2x12 rafters at 16" O.C.These rafters span approximately 12'on the horizontal.There are rafter ties every 4th rafter(48" O.C.).The second floor joists resist the outward reaction of the rafters at the supporting walls.At the peak,there is a 6"x14" LVL ridge beam which spans approximately 25'and supports the rafters. The rafter bays are insulated and the roof deck is not visible.We assume the roof has a plywood deck.The roofing material consists of asphalt shingles. From the photos you have provided the roof and supporting structure appear to be newly constructed and in good condition. Conclusion: Based on the information and photographs you have provided, in our opinion, the roof is satisfactorily robust to support the additional dead load of the proposed PV system.
