MEMORANDUM
TO: Mr. Roy Brown, Architects, Inc
PROM: David C. Macartney, Code Consulting Services 00N4--
DATE: ( January 12, 1993
SUBJECT: Exit Calculations far .
During my June 2, 1992 site visit to Fitzwilly's Restaurant, I measured the exit doors from
the restaurant for purposes of determining the exit capacity. The following measurements
and figures were obtained:
Main front exit door - 311 inches clear @ 0,2 inches per person — 150 persons
Left front exit door - 39' inches clear @ 0.2 inches per person — 190 persons
Left rear exit door - 321/4 inches clear @ 0.2 inches per person — 160 persons
Right rear exit doorway - 54 inches clear @ 0.2 inches per person ee 270 persons
There is a fifth door in the kitchen which could be utilized a an exit door, but due to its size
and condition, 1 did not include it in my computations. My conclusion was that one of the
rear exits could be eliminated, If necessary, while still satisfying Massachusetts State Building
Code requirements fur number of exits, capacity of exits and remote location of exits. It was
my opinion that the left rear exit could be eliminated with the least impact upon traffic flow
and exit access, as the main floor aisle and mezzanine provided separate paths into or out
of this area of the restaurant.
I trust that this information will be helpful to you in your work with the ownership of
Fitzwilly's.
