I have investigated the existing roof framing in the area of the proposed PV solar panel installation. The 24'x26',2-story contemporary house with a connector to a second 2-story house was constructed as condo units in 2006. 19 -PV solar panels are to be installed on the south facing roof of the house at 121 Black Birch Trail. The house rafters are 2x12 installed at 16" on-center, spanning 12'-0",with a roof pitch of 12112. A structural ridge beam constructed with 3— 18" LVLs spans the 26' length of the house and supports the rafters and prevents the roof from spreading.The roofing is asphalt shingles. 1 have reviewed the mounting details for the proposed array.Based on my calculations and a PV solar panel unit weight of 40± lbs, with the attachment points of the array placed at a maximum of 4' on center and staggered to minimize the load to any one rafter, the existing roof framing is adequate to support the proposed PV solar array and the snow and wind load requirements of the current MA State Building Code.
