RE: Complaint of electrical shocks and blocked exit stairway.
Received a telephone call from the sister of Maryann Zoly.
She was very upset about the conditions of her sister ' s
apartment. She said that she got a electrical shock when she
turned on the living room light and the the back exit
stairway was inpassable. This was her sister' s first night
in this apartment and she wanted it to be safe.
On investigating, I found the rear stairway loaded with tools
and boxes . I talked with a tenant in the rear of the
apartment house who said the stuff was his . I told him he
would have to remove the stuff from the stairway which he
did.
I tried the electrical switch in the living room several
times and did not get a shock. It did seem to be somewhat
loose on the wall . The rear bedroom did not seem to have
power at all . The rooms ceiling light and a wall outlet in
the room seemed to not have power. I advised the concerned
sister that I would let the electrical inspector know of
these problems . One of the two battery operated smoke
detectors needed a battery. The sister will replaced the
battery before she leaves tonight .
The apartment is located at 114 King St. It is on the second
floor in the rear of the building. The tenants did not know
who the owner of the building was .
