On July 5h,2012. I visited the above address to observe the progress of
construction of this project. Construction is underway to alter an existing residential
structure and an existing commercial structure that are next to one another into a single
commercial use structure.
At the time of my observation the following people were on site: Jeff Pratt of Jeff
Pratt Builders, Tom Douglas and Emily Baillargeon from Tom Douglas Architects along
with several tradesmen from Elite Concrete.
At the time of my observation the wood structure at 59 Center Street had been
temporarily supported with concrete filled lally columns and 2x nominal framing. The
majority of the existing foundation beneath 59 Center Street had previously been
removed. The west foundation wall was left with the intent of using it in the new
structure. However, this wall collapsed after a heavy rain and will be removed and
replaced with a new foundation wall. Several concrete tradesmen from Elite Concrete
were in the process of setting forms for a new foundation pour beneath 59 Center Street. I
have revised the foundation plan dated 12/22/11 to reflect several changes as a result of
the collapsed foundation wall and requests from Tom Douglas. 1 have also added an S6
sheet which contains an additional foundation section cut detail. Further revisions are
likely once the existing foundation beneath 57 Center Street has been exposed and
original design assumptions are verified.
Minimal structural alterations are proposed for 57 Center Street. At this point the
majority of the interior finishes have been removed.
It is my impression that construction is proceeding as specified in the contract
documents that I have previously produced dated 12122/11.
