On July 5. 2012. Phil Baunsgard from Northeast Solar contacted me and requested that 1
visited the above address to observe the progress of construction of this project. Construction is
underway to install a series of new Photo Voltaic Arrays on the roof of this existing structure.
At the time of my observation tradesmen from Northeast Solar were in the process of setting
connection anchors that will attach new aluminum tube array supports to the existing north roof
structure.
Phil informed me that he was concerned about the location of the array labeled H . I arrived
on site and meet Phil on the roof It became obvious that a large roof top H.V.A.C. unit would
conflict with the proposed location of the'H"array. We decided that the best solution was to shift
the entire array 12'-6" to the south.The"H"array is located over an area of roof that is supported by
WI 8x40 steel dropped beams located roughly 12'-0" o.c. The dropped steel beams support(4) 2x10
purlin beams and roughly 6'-3' o.c. By shifting the"H" array 12'-6' to the north the array support
frames will fall nearly above the W I8x40 dropped sled beams. This mimics the original design
intent and provides sufficient room to clear the roof top H.V.A.C. unit. 1 have reviewed the proposed
new array "H" location and the existing dropped W 18x40 steel beams have sufficient strength to
support this assembly with Massachusetts 81h edition code prescribed snow loads.
Phil and his tradesmen .were also having difficulty installing the specified self-drilling and
self-tapping array boot anchors into the angle bar trusses located at the north end of the building.
These anchors have been specified by the solar array support frame manufacture. I tried to locate an
alternate anchor that might be more efficient to install. However due to the required 5 inch length of
the anchor I could not locate an alternate anchor. Phil will discuss this issue with the photo array
support frame manufacture.
It is my impression that construction is proceeding as specified in the contract documents
produced by Silverback Solar dated 412/12.
