Building "USE" Group: F-1 moderate hazard factory. b. Type (s) of occupancies (hazards within building): Factory and limited storage. c. Storage of commodities within the building: Class I through 3 commodities. cartooned and exposed. d. One story above grade high point of building roof 25-21/4. e. Zero stories below grade. f New 20,3 10 square feet. g. Storage limited to 12'-0" high. Project consists of a new building used for manufacturing of wood furniture. Wet sprinklers are provided throughout. The large outside canopy is provided with a non toxic freeze solution loop. The plant is designed for ordinary hazard group two .20 over the most remote 1500 square feet, the office light hazard .10 over the most remote 900 square feet and the paint room containing two spray booths is designed for extra hazard .30 over the entire room. Sprinklers will be provided in the paint spray booths under separate contract. Section 2- Applicable laws, regulations and standards a. 780 CMR code sections "Fire Protection System Requirements" 904.0 fire suppression systems, 906.5 requires audio visual alarm devices, 923.1 requires UL Central station for sprinkler system monitoring. b. NFPA Standards and Edition used for design of each specific fire protection system NFPA 13, 2002 NFPA 72, 2002 NFPA 24, 2002. Section 3 —Design Responsibility for Fire Protection Systems Warehouse Mechanical the installing contractor completely designs and specifies (develops a full system layout, design criteria and calculations), installs the system and certifies system installation for code compliance at completion. Exempt from requirement for seal of Massachusetts Registered Professional Engineer in accordance with MGLC 112 section 81r. Section 4-fire Protection systems to be installed. a. Water supply six-inch fire main supplied from twelve inch main in Earle Street. b. Automatic sprinkler systems and components. c. Fire alarm systems and components-audio and visual appliances installed throughout in accordance with NFPA 72. d. Manual suppression systems-small hose stations aren't required in accordance with NFPA 13, standpipe isn't required. e. Seismic provided in accordance with NFPA 13, 9.3. f. New storz connection provided on the front of the building. All of the above items are required by regulations. (780 CMR) all systems are new. 903.1.1 (1.13) Sequence of operation Section 1 Wet sprinkler system System operates automatically upon the fusing of a single fire sprinkler. Operational Sequence: 1. Wet system on fusing of one sprinkler head water flows. Water flow will close contacts of a flow switch. Closed Contacts on the flow switch will activate fire alarm panel. 903.1.l (1.C) Testing Criteria Section 1-Testing Criteria. Underground piping: Existing. System piping: 1. Hydrostatically test at a pressure of 200 psi. For two hours without a loss of pressure. 2. Conduct forward flow test of backflow preventer at 439.1 g.p.m. 3. 2" main drain test shall be conducted Record Static and residual pressures on test certificate. 4. Conduct system operational test from inspectors test connection. Local alarm must sound within 1 minute. 5. Central station must receive alarm and trouble signals. Warehouse Mechanical is in charge of setting up and coordinating testing. Warehouse Mechanical will provide test certificates. Section 2-Equipment and Tools a. Manufacturer's instructions b. Approved Narrative Report, sequence of operation section. c. Flow measuring devices-pitot tube for backflow preventer flushing. d. Gauges-main riser for 2" drain and hydrostatic testing. e. Fire hose is required to direct backflow preventer flushing discharge. Section 3-approval Requirements a. Certification from the legally recognized professional responsible for the design Stating that the fire protection sprinkler system has been installed in accordance with the approved fire protection construction documents and that he has reviewed the shop drawings for conformance to 780 CMR 903.3 and has identified deviations if any, from the approved fire protection construction documents. b. Confirmation by the building owner/developer or authorized representative that they-have received the as-built sprinkler system shop drawings from the installing contractor and that the legally recognized professional has certified their Accuracy. c. Material, Test, performance and Completion Certificates, properly executed by the installing contractor and that the legally recognized professional has certified their Accuracy. d. Satisfactory functional test of all fire protection systems witnessed by the Building official and the head of the fire department or their deignees. The procedure to reset and or silence the alarm, is to push the silence and or reset button then push in the code (1111). Fire Alarm Monitoring: The Fire Alarm System will be monitored at C.O.P.S. Monitoring in N.J. Irsco shall program all alarms, troubles and supervisory. It shall dial thru the built in digital dialer to the central station. Proper notifications to the Fire Dept. and responsible parties shall be made upon receiving the signals.
