Re: 91 Grove St.
At your request, I have conducted a complete inspection of the building at 91
Grove St. for the presence and condition of asbestos containing materials (ACM). The
building is not currently occupied and I was able to examine all of the rooms.
No asbestos containing materials or suspect materials were identified on the
first, second or attic floors. In the basement, two types of suspect materials were
sampled and analyzed by a licensed laboratory. Their analysis report is attached.
The two materials identified were the pipe cover throughout the basement area and
the hot water storage tank. These two materials were found to contain significant
amounts of asbestos. The pipe covering is 20 to 30% chrysotile asbestos, while the
tank cover is 70 to 90% chrysotile and amosite asbestos.
The following amounts of these materials were identified:
Basement rooms east: 190 linear feet pipe cover
Basement room center: 65 linear feet pipe cover
24 square feet tank cover
Basement room west: 140 linear feet pipe cover
In addition, there is significant amounts of asbestos debris on the dirt floor of the
west end of the basement and smaller amounts in the other two rooms. About 10% of
the pipe coverings are damaged, as is the tank cover.
Because of the widespread sites of damage, the vulnerability of these materials
to future damage, the need for renovations in this area, and the use of the building, I
recommend a full abatement of the ACM through removal. Given the amounts of
material in place and the debris removal, I estimate a contract for the complete
abatement to be about$6,500.
If there is additional information I can provide in this area, please contact me.

Re : Asbestos disposal
The asbestos removal project at 91 Grove St. will be
starting on September 5, 1990 and be completed by September 8 .
I expect there will be about 10 yards of asbestos debris for
disposal . This project is funded under the City' s CDBG grant
and is considered a City function. I request that the
asbestos removal contractor, Ace Asbestos Removal of Greenfield, MA
be allowed to dispose of the waste without direct charge . I also
expect that this waste will be disposed of around noon time on
Friday, September 8 .
