5.5 There is approximately 300 s.f. of planking replacement at a unit price of$5/sq. ft. If we
continue at this rate, a cost of$1,000 above and beyond the contract price will be incurred for
roof decking replacement.
8/17: We're now at 500 s.f. of planking replacement(300 s.f. above the contract).
5.6 Peter noted that we should replace the fascias. FGA will make a recommendation on the
fascia material and whether it should be 1x6 or 2x6 treated.
8/17: FGA will recommend a paint maintenance-free fascia. James Hardy XLD 1"thick pre-
finished. White. 1" x 5-1/2" x 10' lengths. Shall be installed with stainless steel screws or a
PVC material, such as Nestek.
5.7 We discussed the means of beam repair and the need to use a two part epoxy glue for gluing in
the replacement wood where rot has been removed.
8/17: Beam repair has been successfully done using 2 part epoxy 3M DP-100.
5.8 The first repair was done using construction adhesive PL 400: It's long been roofed over and
its upgrading, if required, will have to be done from below, hopefully, because the cut was
made with a circular saw rather than a chain saw. The tightness of the cut will make the PL
400 acceptable. FGA will check with Wayne King.
5.9 After the meeting I found a source of epoxy glue in Connecticut: Binding Source (1-800-249-
3333). I spoke with Jeff whose product is DP 100 that comes in 200 ml tubes. An applicator
gun and replacement tips must be purchased. This glue has a 20 minute pot life.
Wayne King noted that the Sika Co. also makes an epoxy for bearing structural wood. This
information was subsequently relayed to Peter.
8/17: Approximately $1,100 was spent on the 2 part epoxy glue materials.
(After the meeting I spoke with Rick Dazelle, the foreman, regarding when to make a full 2"
cut replacement in the top of the beam and when not to. I was shown a beam that had a '/z"
groove in the center at the top of it. The nailing and bearing existing was adequate. I am
waiting to speak with Wayne King as to whether or not this should be left as is--cut out or
filled with some sort of structural wood filler. Wayne said do nothing unless rot exceeds '/2"
all across top of beam.)
NEW BUSINESS
6.1 I observed the interior of the barns where the skylights have been removed and how dark the
space is in the areas where vehicle repair work is done. The need for good lighting in that area
is apparent.
