We hope to see the first two families move into their homes this summer and we are hoping that we will be completely done with the other homes by this time next year. I have heard that some neighbors have been disturbed by the noise and activity on the site and the exuberance of some of our volunteers. I want to share with you what steps we have taken to minimize any disturbance to the quiet enjoyment of your home that we might cause. First, I have asked the Sunday work groups to refrain from using power tools. As we typically schedule youth groups on Sundays who are prohibited from using the cutting power tools, this has been a manageable restriction on our work. At our next site supervisor training I will speak with the supervisors specifically about encouraging groups to be respectful of the neighbors when it comes to noise. I hope this addresses the issue and that we do not disturb you as we all move into outdoor living as the summer final joins us. However, if there is a problem, please do not hesitate to talk with the Habitat Site Supervisor working at the site. Recently the work of our regular Wednesday and weekend work parties has been supplemented with the start up of the Smith Vocational High School students construction program which has been running Monday thru Friday. Since April, hardly a day has gone by without work at the site. The construction on the second and third duplex have involved the digging of foundations and the framing up of the shell of the house—this is clearly the most intensive period of noise in the construction period. I will share with you that the Smith Vocational students are wrapping up their work soon and will not be back to the site until the fall. Mid-,",,cx noise and activity will decrease, however, during the summer our regular work parties are scheduled on Wednesdays and the weekends, with occasional additional mid-week work days Second, if you'd like to check if there is work scheduled, please feel free to check in with our website (www.aioneervallevhabitat org). I am including what I know of our schedule for the summer. If our workdays coincide with a picnic or party at your home, please give me a call in advance and we will give our groups and site supervisors a specific heads up. A "Driveway Permit" is required in all cases where a new curb cut or an alteration to an existing curb cut is proposed on a City public way. 2. Driveway permits issued by the Board of Public Works (BPW) shall be attached to and become part of the "Building Permit" issued by the Building Inspector. 3. Prior to the issuance of a "Building Permit" the owner of any lot to be serviced by a new driveway shall apply to the BPW for a 'Driveway Permit" by completing the pertinent portions of the permit (see attached). Once the location of the driveway is approved by the BPW, a building permit may be issued. 4. The Building Inspector shall not issue an "Occupancy Permit" unless the driveway to the lot has been approved by the BPW. 5. Properties situated or driveways installed in low lying areas in the path of the natural drainage will be subject to water problems. These problems may include water sheeting across roadways adjacent to the driveway. The City and the DPW assume no responsibility for any such drainage problems.
