E. Manual pull stations are existing. No new manual pull stations are required to be
installed as part of this project. Manual pull stations are required to be located
within 5 feet of each exit door and at all entry points leading to an egress stairway
and shall initiate the fire alarm system sequence of events. Existing devices will
be relocated as necessary to accommodate new room layout.
F. Fire alarm system notification and signaling devices in this building will include
the following features:
1. Audio notification devices in the form of Horn/Strobes to be installed or
relocated as shown on plans. It is the intent of this design that audible
notification devices achieve sound pressure levels of 15 dba above
ambient sound levels in all areas of the building in compliance with
chapter 4-3 of NFPA 72.
2. Visual notification devices in the form of Horn/Strobes and Strobe only
appliances to be installed or relocated as shown on the plans. It is the
intent of this design that visual notification devices achieve appropriate
coverage for public areas in compliance chapter 4-4 of NFPA 72.
G. System connected duct smoke detectors are existing at all HVAC units where
required as dictated by air handling capacity and applicable code. Activation of
duct smoke detector will initiate the fire alarm system sequence of events.
H. Tamper switches and flow switches are existing where required to serve fire
protection equipment as shown on the construction documents.
I. Heat Detection Devices associated with the old zone type Gamewell Fire Alarm
Control Panel in the original building are existing. Heat detectors have been
provided with Addressable Interface Modules, at the original Gamewell panel
location, and connected to the new control panel. Activation of a heat detection
device will initiate the fire alarm system sequence of events.
J. The server room located in the old building is protected by an Autoplulse 422R
Ansul system, monitored by the Notifier Panel, for additional protection. The
server room located in the building addition is protected by a Scorpio Fire
Suppression System, monitored by the Notifer Panel, for additional protection.
K. This project does not include any special design considerations or anticipated
deviations from the code requirements.
L&S 1728 Page 5

Building Code Review:
The existing bank building consists of the original late nineteenth
century masonry and wood framed structure plus two major additions of
masonry exterior walls, concrete decks and steel framing. The first floor
foot print area for the entire building is approximately 17,000 square feet.
The entire area including the occupied basement level, first floor and
partial second floor is approximately 42,000 square feet. Using criteria
from the seventh edition 780 CMR of the Massachusetts State Building
Code Table 601,Construction Type IIIB (unprotected) appears to be the
most applicable building type. Table 503 allows a floor area of 19,000
square feet and four stories. The existing building fits within these
limitations (17,000 sq. ft. and three stories) without addressing allowed
height and area modification increases. Additionally the existing building
is furnished with a fire protection sprinkler system, fire alarm and detector
systems.
The area to be renovated consists of approximately 2,000 square
feet in the southeast corner of the basement level. It presently consists of
offices and a staff break room. This area will be gutted and a new"open
office" area created for the Electronic Banking Department and a smaller
employee break room. The present layout provides for offices off of a
central corridor which leads to an existing second means of egress stair at
the south side of the building. The primary means of egress from this area
of the bank is to a stair which empties out at the Keyes Street exit. Travel
distance from the new department to the primary exit is approximately 60
feet. The second means of egress from the new E-Banking Department
will be through the open office area to the south exit stair which will
receive fire protection upgrades with a new one hour rated wall enclosure
and 45 minute rated door assembly. The two exit doors from this
department will not have locksets but will have passage sets which will
allow egress at all times. Sufficient egress aisle space within the open
office area will be maintained by the positioning of new stationary
modular partitions and furnishings.New exit signs, emergency lighting
and fire alarm devices will be incorporated that meet the current code
requirements.
