It is understood that you are proposing to construct a three(3)bedroom addition to your dwelling and convert the two(2)existing bedrooms into additional living room and kitchen living space. Thus there would be a net gain of one bedroom in your dwelling. Based on the septic system inspection report dated 11/20/96,conducted by Certified Septic System ' Inspector William Curtis,your existing septic system,which consists of a 1000 gal.septic tank,a distribution box and two 42' long leach trenches,meets the Title Five capacity requirements for a three bedroom home without a garbage grinder. Therefore,the Board of Health has no objection to the proposed three bedroom addition to your dwelling at 521 Audubon Road,provided that the final number of bedrooms does not exceed three and no that garbage grinder is installed. In addition the septic tank must be pumped,at a minimum,every two years. It should be noted that,because your septic system is estimated to be over thirty years old,hydraulic failure of the leaching lines would not be unexpected,especially when there is a change in sewage flow,such as that which occurs when a new family moving into a home formerly occupied by an older couple.Once a septic system failure occurs the entire system must be brought up to full code compliance.
