Re: 352 Chesterfield Rd, Northampton, MA
Dear Mr. Hasbrouck,
Thank you for meeting with me today to review the proposed residence at 352 Chesterfield Rd in
Northampton, Massachusetts. Below I have noted the two items we discussed and my
understanding of the additional requirements for this property:
1. Fire Alarm System: As noted yesterday in our phone conversation, I updated A7.1
Reflected Ceiling Plans to provide for an additional smoke detector in the Sewing Room
on the second floor as its could be used as a bedroom. The CO detector and Smoke
detector in the second floor hall has been relocated to be a minimum of 10' between the
Sewing Room and the Guest Bedroom. Finally, a Heat detector has been added to the
workshop as it could be used as a garage space. My understanding is that the plan I
submitted to you today is sufficient for indicating these changes and no further
documentation is required at this time for the Building Permit.
2. Guest Suite over the Garage: This space will be used as a guest suite by the Owners and will
not be used as an Accessory Apartment as defined in the City of Northampton Zoning
Ordinance 350-10.10. No further documentation regarding the use of this space is
required at this time for the Building Permit, however because of this Zoning Ordinance; a
Deed Restriction must be filed with the Registry of Deeds indicating that this space will be
used only as a guest suite and not an accessory apartment. I have notified the Owners of
this requirement so that this document may be filed prior to Occupancy. Should the
Owners decide to turn this space into an accessory apartment at a future time, they will be
required to review this with the Building Department, meet the requirements of the
"Zoning Ordinance and obtain the required Zoning Permit.
