I inspected the property today. The work being done on the driveway violates the Coty of Northampton zoning ordinance chapter 350, section 8.8 (H) and (N). You must cease all work on this project until permits are issued by the Building Department and the Department of Public Works. I have included a copy of the pertinent regulations. The full ordinance is available through the city web site, www.northamptonma.gov. Penalties for violations of city ordinances may, upon conviction, be affixed in an amount not to exceed one hundred dollars ($100.00)for each offense. Each day or portion of a day that any violation is allowed to continue shall constitute a separate offense. Since we purchased the property in 1998, the parking area has been able to accomodate two cars parked side by side. Recent landscaping around the perimeter of the parking area was done to enhance the appearance of the property, and better define these same parking spaces for a future asphalt surface on the driveway.
