To reduce false alarms,we propose eliminating the required smoke detector outside of Bedroom 1,
which opens into the same small hallway as the Bathroom, and which is in close proximity to the
Kitchen. The approximate stove location is noted on the plan.
For the carbon monoxide detector required within 10 feet of Bedroom 1, we propose installing the
detector inside Bedroom 1 itself instead of in the Bath Hall or Kitchen, per discussion with Captain
Therrien,to reduce false alarms.
Dim,N 6
Also included in the apartment is a heat detector(in the bM*g Room)that is hardwired to the common
areas system.
A smoke detector connected to the common areas system is located in the Back Common Hallway, at
the top of the stairs. A smoke detector connected to the common areas system is also located in the
Front Common Hallway, at the top of the stairs.
A proposed Fire Extinguisher location is marked in the Back Common Hallway, as well as the Front
Common Hallway.
Finally, a smoke detector is proposed in the second floor front Foyer to the 3rd Floor Apartment, as
noted on the plan.
Third Floor
Please note that the third floor plan is oriented differently than the lower level plans. The third floor
apartment will have a hardwired interconnected smoke/CO detector system. Each bedroom will have a
smoke detector. Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors (or a combined unit) are located between
Bedroom 2 and Bedroom 1. An additional smoke detector is located outside of Bedroom 1.
Also included in the apartment is a heat detector that is hardwired to the common areas system. The
proposed location is in the R&n7ty Room (an alternative location is the Living Room).
LiviNL,
The third floor apartment includes two staircases inside the unit, and no common areas.

Smoke Detector System Narrative
42-4 Day Avenue Attic Unit: Conversion from a Two-to Three-Family Home
November 17, 2014
The whole house smoke detector system will include:
1. A hardwired, interconnected smoke and CO detector system in the common areas(basement,
front and rear staircases and hallways),with one heat detector inside each apartment. Wired to
owner's panel.
2. An interconnected smoke and CO detector system (hardwired or wireless) in each apartment
(three total). Wired to each unit, as appropriate.
Hardwired detectors will have battery backup.
Basement
A smoke detector and CO detector(or combined unit)will be located at the base of the stairs in the
common area. The delineations shown in the plan are not actual walls but are separations that allow air
exchange between the different sections of the basement. The basement is used by tenants for storage.
First Floor
The first floor apartment will have a hardwired or wireless interconnected smoke/CO detector system.
Each bedroom will have a smoke detector. Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors (or a combined unit)
are located outside Bedrooms 2 and 3. We propose eliminating the required smoke detector outside of
Bedroom 1, which opens into the Kitchen, per discussion with Captain Therrien,to reduce false alarms.
The approximate stove location is noted on the plan.
For the carbon monoxide detector required within 10 feet of Bedroom 1, we propose installing the
detector inside Bedroom 1 itself instead of in the Kitchen, per discussion with Captain Therrien,to
reduce false alarms.
Llvi N
Also included in the apartment is a heat detector(in the D"mss Room)that is hardwired to the common
areas system.
A smoke detector connected to the common areas system is located in the back common hallway, at the
top of the stairs.
A proposed Fire Extinguisher location is marked in the back common hallway.
Second Floor
The second floor apartment will have a hardwired or wireless interconnected smoke/CO detector
system. Each bedroom will have a smoke detector. Per discussion with Captain Therrien, we propose an
additional smoke detector in the Living Room in the event that the room is used as a bedroom. Smoke
and carbon monoxide detectors(or a combined unit) are located outside Bedroom 2 (and the Living
Room that could be used as a bedroom).
