Hi Serena,
Yes,I do agree that the ties can come out. However,some inspectors want to see the ridge tied together with either,metal strapping over the ridge nailed to the
rafters,or metal strapping under the ridge board nailed to the rafters,or 2x4s doing the same thing,or a couple timberlok or headlok screws through the ridge
board into the end of the rafters.All this is to prevent the roof separating at the ridge during high winds when sometimes you can have a sudden drop in air
pressure on one side of the roof and the internal air pressure can push the roof apart.
