As part of the Investigation and Evaluation requirements of the Massachusetts Amendments to Chapter 34 of the International Building Code, I have the following observations: With regard to design gravity loads,there is no change in occupancy,so there is no change to the design loads. Without modification of the existing structural systems,the existing lateral load capacity will remain the same. Based on our review of the code,the report prepared by Phil Sherman,attached,and the expected use of the space, a single means of egress is permitted. The existing space is currently protected by a sprinkler system;that system will remain in use,with modifications to layout and number of heads as required by the new layout of the space. To separate the Kosher Kitchen function from the other spaces on level one, and level two,we are proposing to add a single layer of strapping and one layer of 5/8" thick Type "X"gypsum wallboard over the existing substrates. Our recessed lights will be fire-rated. All spaces will have sheet vinyl flooring;the bathroom walls and ceiling will be epoxy painted,the Kitchen and Janitor's closet have a combination of epoxy paint and pvc board on the walls,for durability and greater cleanability. The Kosher Kitchen will be accessed via a grade ramp with a 3%slope from existing grade to a new deck at finish floor level. The door will be equipped with door operators at the interior and exterior for accessible use. The Kitchen has a countertop height of 34", an accessible sink,and accessible residential style range and accessible dishwasher. The bathroom is also accessible; it is our understanding based on the expected use and occupancy level of the space that a single unisex bathroom is permitted. Based on our conversations in the past, and with the Owner,given their expected use of the space,we have designed the kitchen to be residential in style with an electric residential range and residential range hood with a capacity of 300 cfm. All recessed light fixtures will have LED bulbs for reduced energy use. The bathroom and range hood will utilize Energy Star rated fixtures.
