Vreeland Design Associates Re: Jennifer Normanly, 48 Hockanum Rd,Northampton, MA: Structural assessment of existing porch roof to support proposed solar array. On July 1, 2014, 1 conducted a site visit and investigated the existing porch roof framing for the proposed PV panel installation. Based on the measured depth of the roof and nailing pattern, the rafters appear to be full dimensioned 2x4s installed at a maximum spacing of 24" on-center, span approximately 5'-6" at a 4/12 pitch. The porch eave beams are at least 3-2x8 with a maximum span of 9'-3". 1 have reviewed the mounting details for the proposed arrays. Based on a PV panel unit weight of approximately 37 lbs, with the attachment points of the array placed at a maximum of 4' on center and staggered to minimize the load to any one rafter, the existing roof framing is adequate to support the proposed PV array.
