Dear Jenny,
We received a complaint from the Northampton Police Department about the
garage on your property at 35-37 Highland Avenue. The building is in very poor
condition, open to the weather and constitutes an attractive nuisance. The doors are
secured but there is an opening in the wall on the southwest side that affords entry.
In accordance with the Massachusetts State Building Code, 780CMR Chapter 1,
sections 121.2 and 121.3, we are notifying you that you must immediately secure the
structure to prevent unauthorized entry, and you must remove the structure or make it
safe as soon as is reasonably possible.
I have posted a warning on the structure. Please contact me at the building
department and let me know how you plan to resolve this situation. If you do not contact
us before Friday, November 17, 2006, we will take further action on this matter.

Mr. Harrington:
On March 24, 2005 and December 21, 2005 1 examined the structural renovation of the
two family wood-framed structure at 37 Highland Street in Northampton to ascertain the work
complied with drawings produced by Whetstone Engineering numbered SK-1, SK-2 & SK-3,
dated 1/25/05, and SK-4, dated 4/10/05. This letter comprises my report of those
examinations, and does not address other work which may have been done at that location.
The existing building is an 18th century timber frame which has undergone extensive
remodeling over the 2 centuries. Much of the work was of inferior quality, and as a result
numerous beams had to be replaced or re-supported. The required work has been completed
in a satisfactory manner. It is my opinion, based upon my visits, as well as my training and
experience as a professional engineer, that the renovations meet the requirements of the
Massachusetts State Building Code.

Comments: Dear Louis,
Hello-Here is the last piece of the structural pie for the stabilization of the two family
house at Highland Avenue. Bob Leet did the final footing inspection on December
21st and reviewed the basement work which had not been completed prior to his last
visit. Please find his stamped approval attached for your records.
I hope that this completes the file on the structural aspect.
I am in the process of putting together the scope and spec's for the tenant separation
firewalls for Jenny now. You should get those soon.
