SUBJECT: WTIHOLDING BUILDING OCCUPANCY PERMITS

We are requesting that Certificate of Occupancy Permits be withheld on all structures that will use a
common water or sewer service,until the appropriate documents have been submitted to and approved by the
Department of Public Works. These documents are important, as they will state each prospective
homeowner's responsibility concerning joint ownership and maintenance of the common water and/or sewer
service. The following is one of the properties that we are aware of that meets these circumstances:
As we become aware of the locations of other such projects,we will forward a list to your department.If,
however you receive a Sewer and/or Water Availability Permit that has the following language under
the "comments"section,please withhold the CO until we have approved the appropriate documents:
"The Northampton Water / Sewer Department maintains the water service in the City layout only.
Appropriate documents stating each prospective homeowner's responsibility in regard to joint
ownership and maintenance of the common water/sewer service must be submitted to the DPW."
