The Northampton Redevelopment Authority held its regularly
scheduled meeting on Wednesday, May 24 , 1989 at 4: 30 p.m. in the
City Council Chambers, Municipal Building, Northampton, MA.
Chairman Edward Skroski called the meeting to order at 4 : 45 p.m.
In attendance was the Chairman, and members Al Griggs, Joan Welch
and Richard Abuza. Absent was member Paul Stramese. Also present
was Marcia Berkley.
Norton Company
Peter Sullivan, reviewed the site plans to expand space at Norton
Company located in the Industrial Park. The plan is to add a rear
addition of 13 ,500 sq. ft. and a front addition of 9, 000 sq.ft. The
Board reviewed plans for the additions and whether or not
modification will meet the Redevelopment Authority By-Laws as
outlined. The following issues were discussed:
1. The setback will be 60 ' from the street.
2. Ground coverage will be 28.2%.
3 . There will be 27 parking spaces.
The street setback of 60 ' is not consistent with the By-Laws,
therefore Mr. Sullivan agreed to build the additions in phases -
Phase 1 will be the rear addition. The rear addition meets all By-
Law requirements. The Committee voted unanimously to approve the
plans for the rear addition with the agrement that the owner meet
and present plans for the front addition to the Redevelopment
Authority for plan approval prior to construction.
YMCA
Suzanne Walker presented plans for installing a storage shed for
toys in the play yard at the PVTA site. Three options were
presented, option 1 with half the shed in the play yard and half
outside was the preferred option. The Board voted unanimously to
allow the installation of the shed with the stipulation that it
only be utilized to store toys and should there be any change in
usage, parties agree it will be removed. M. Berkley is to send a
letter to Conservation Commission explaining the Board' s decision.
