Patillo, CBO SACRAMENTO,CA Building Commissioner, Zoning Enforcement Officer 212 Main Street, Room 100 Northampton, MA 01060-3189 Subject: The Minute Maid Company Pouch Line Addition Northampton, Massachusetts Checking of Actual Hung Loads from Roof Framing PFI Project No.: 16040 Dear Mr. Patillo: The Pouch Line Addition work at the Minute Maid Plant in Northampton is nearly complete. The installation required"hanging" ductwork, electrical, some piping and few light conveyors from the existing roof joists framing system. This was planned before the installation work; calculations were submitted to you on March 2, 2001 indicating allowable hung loads from the joists system. In actual installation, due to a large duct and physical constraints, some hung loads were concentrated in one area. Our structural engineer visited the site recently to closely observe all"hung" loads. Actual loads were calculated at congested areas and structural calculations were prepared to analyze the loading on joists. The maximum load area is between frame lines `8"to "9" and column lines "G"to "H". All loads, existing and new, have been accounted for, including ductwork, electrical cable trays, conveyors and piping loads. The resulted loading is 14.1 pounds per square foot which is greater than 12 psf, the allowable"hung" load. Redistribution of loads over a larger area to adjoining joists is necessary. New structural hangers and miscellaneous steel will be added to distribute hanger loads to three (3)joists such that the load reduces to within the allowable limits. The enclosed calculations indicate that the load will be 11.6 psf. 160 FEDERAL STREET ■ BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02110-1700 ■ TELEPHONE 617-345-9322 ■ FAX 617-946-9777
