File #1406-87-0919 Dear Mr. Kuntz: Based on the soil test boring data that has been collected on your behalf and on research of data published by the U. S. Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service, it is the professional geotechnical opinion of Corporate Environmental Advisors, Inc- that 3 foot 6 inches is an effective maximum depth of footings to prevent frost action in sub-strata of the Amostown-Windsor (Au) Complex. The Soil Conservation Service has rated the Amostown Complex with only moderate susceptibility to frost action, therefore it is not appropriate to construct deeper foundation footings than stated above for a heated slab building of this nature_ This depth also concurs with published data provided by the U. S. Array Corps. of Engi neeria+.g (TM 5-809-1/AFM 88-3, Chap- 1 ). Should you have any further questions please feel free to contact us at (413) 589-0548.
