Description of Proposed Use/Work/Project/Occupation: Lamar Advertising proposes to relocate a double faced 10'4 x 41 ft. sign with a one foot apron from the Northampton Airport to the rear yard of 355 Bridge Street. This will be a single monopole structure made of steel. History of Sign relocation: Original location was at the Northampton Airport adjacent to I-91 New sign permits were given to the land owner and we were not even notified. The land owner has built two new superstructures. According to the Northampton regulations regarding signs section 7.6 Non conforming Accessory Signs we could not rebuild the signs and we could only repair and perform maintenance on the signs, and not make any more nonconforming (i.e. higher, taller, bigger, closer etc.. By the landowner being able to rebuild the signs, this created unfair competition with the signs remaining as is. By rebuilding them we could have negotiated a better deal with the landowner. We believe this to be unfair and basically the City has put us in a position where we were unable to compete for the business at that site. Lamar Advertising is requesting to re-locate one of these two signs to 355 Bridge Street along I-91. If the position of the City is that billboards are prohibited, then how were new permits issued to the landowner of the Northampton Airport? And why are they able to build brand new larger structures than we had? These new structures were measured and appear to be 14' x 48' ft. Lamar Advertising is asking the City to keep us whole and approve the relocation of these structures and to maintain a fair level playing field for signs in Northampton. r � 10.
