THE CHILDREN'S HOUSE a Montessori School
Jobsite Meeting: 26 June 1997
Present: Susan Swift; Bob Raymond; Jonathan Wright; Skip Valencik; Bruce Cleare;
Laura Fitch.
PROGRESS: Roof trusses installed; roof sheathing in progress; porches poured; Skip reported
that framing scheduled to be complete by end of weekend with roofing starting
this weekend or early next week. Windows are scheduled for the 10th or 11th.
OLD BUSINESS:
1. Gas: nothing further.
2. Submittals:
a. Plumbing: Laura will look at sinks. Faucet to be resubmitted.
b. Trusses: letter from manufacturer required re: point load for moveable partition.
C. Electrical: classroom fixture still in question.
d. Moveable partition: WB still needs to provide proposal to add a swinging door
and/or tackboards on partition. What are the options for hardware colors?
3. Colors: Hold on classroom tile until re-pricing of parquet floor.
4. Concrete:
a. The concrete steps were poured with one 24" wide step instead of two 12" steps.
The following options were discussed but not resolved: 1. pressure.treated wood
step, 2. conc. unipour doweled to frost wall, or 3. cut and fix existing pour as per
drawings. Later note: Laura could find nothing in the new building code that
would require a narrower tread. Laura also spoke to Susan who would prefer a
new concrete step. They also discussed the possibility of raising the grade to meet
the existing steps instead, but this needs to be looked at in the field.
b. There was some discussion about adding a third step, but it was decided that grade
would be better higher. There will be a slope down to tree, or a small retaining
wall needs to be built around it.
C. The two front porches were determined to be okay with just one step, with a
window well would have to be added at one basement window.
5. Plumbing: Laura confirmed that the classroom sinks can be made accessible if cabinetry
is changed.
6. Requests for proposals:
a. moveable partition options
b. classroom cabinetry
C. wiring for future insta-heat
d. Parquet flooring(Residential instead of commercial grade-$12,000 is way
too much.) Can residential grade materials go on concrete slab?

17. Blower Door Test: Roger reported that this was done, and a report/proposal was pending.
18. Security & Fire alarms: nothing further.
19. Windows:
a. Bruce to provide a proposal for relocating window that is to be removed.
b. Herb requested a price to add a window to pre-School bathroom. Match type A
or octagonal one? Laura to look at.
20. Ramp: WB to provide price. Railings should be similar to existing ones and meet HP
code.
21. One way glass windows: Similar to existing with 20" wide rough opening. Locate
behind Library door at CLRM 101 and centered on W. wall at CLRM 102. A proposal
should be provided.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Susan & Laura requested a price to substitute parquet flooring at Classrooms.
2. Existing vinyl siding: There was some discussion about whether or not the existing vinyl
scheduled to be removed could be re-used, but the general consensus was that it was not
cost effective. Herb requested a credit proposal to leave otherwise undisturbed back wall
with vinyl.
The next meeting was scheduled for Thursday 26 June 1997 Cad 8:00 am.

AFTER MEETING ACTIONS:
1. Roof Shingles: Bruce pointed out to Roger and Laura that 30 year "architectural" shingles
were specified, but would not match the existing 20 year, 3-tab type. Bruce reported that
Roger said to match existing, and Bruce said he could do this with a 25 year shingle.

The Children's House, Jobsite Minutes, 6/19/97, page 2.
6. Classroom cabinetry: Bruce to price.
7. Toilet accessories: Susan to check with paper supplier re: toilet paper and towel
dispensers.
8. Heating: nothing further.
9. Boiler room(s):
a. Roger reported that new boiler should probably go into crawlspace. Laura asked
if it was likely to be noisy. There is some insulation in floor now and the new
boiler "room" will need to be enclosed. Herb thought it would be better to keep
the boilers together, but this was not resolved.
b. What is the fire rating requirement? Laura to check.
C. This location would require a 12x12 box (closed combustion exhaust) out front
wall, but it was pointed out that this will be screened visually by bushes.
d. Existing Boiler: Why did Ray say the existing room did not meet code?
Combustion air?
e. Cost? Bruce will look at this. As existing room would not need expansion, it
might be "a wash".
10. Ventilation: Nothing further.
11. Lighting:
a. Classroom fixture: Similar direct/indirect fixture can be provided at increased
quantity (as per addendum), at no extra cost. The $1,000 credit was for wrap-
around fixture. Susan would like to use the direct/indirect fixture. Laura will
review.
b. Dimming of CLRM fixture: Herb wants to make sure that the lamps can be
switched separately - Bruce to ask.
C. Rebate: Laura or Roger to write letter making case for credit for indirect lights.
d. Drawings: update them?
e. Walk through: pending completion of rough framing.
12. Classroom Ceilings:
a. Bruce submitted a price of$9,512 (too much) to switch to 4x8 "Nubby" acoustic
panels. He had not yet priced glued on acoustic tile.
13. Paving:
a. The corners of lot were staked and reviewed in terms of trying to save nice trees
nearest building. Was this resolved?
b. Allowance price needs to be confirm.
14. Change Order Proposals: Herb requested a running tally - Bruce to provide. Herb also
requested that Susan put together a furnishings budget to aid in the change order
evaluation.
a. credit for star burst pending.
b. credit for 8" stone pending.
C. add for rebar in slab.
d. credit for exterior light fixture swap.
15. Trees:
a. Bruce reported that his worker will feed the tree soon, and that he asked him to
specify his intent (to avoid more misunderstandings).
b. Cotton to look at the tree in question and parking lot trees.
16. Computer Wiring: nothing further...
