You were present on site and explained to me that the owner, Tara Guild, would like to remove roughly 80 square feet of the second floor in between the existing front entry door and the existing stair case to the second floor. At the time of my observation portions of the interior drywall around the main entry had already been removed and I was able to verify the existing framing in this area. The existing rafters are 2x6 at 16 inches on center, with a 12/12 pitch. The existing second floor joists are 2x10 at 16 inches on center. The existing entry door and side lights are 5'-0"wide and currently there is no structural header present above this door. The existing main entry door appears to have been a small remodel and not part of the original structure. In order to remove the proposed portion of the second floor, additional new structure will be installed to resist the trust force from the rafters and provide proper support for the gravity loads resulting for the roof dead load and snow loads above the existing door.
