36-166 (4) DECISION OF' THE
ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS
The Zoning Board of Appeals for the City of Northampton met
on April 27 , 1983 and due to the vote not being unanimous , denied
the petition of Kenneth Beach and Lori Crafts for the construction
of an attached two car garage to their home at 773 Florence Road .
Present at the meeting and voting were Chairman Robert C.
Buscher , William Brandt and Marianne Zurn .
Based on the evidence presented to the Board, the Board made
the following findings in regard to the petition :
1. The size and shape of the parcel in question was
not unique and that a detached garage could easily
be constructed on the opposite side or an attached
garage constructed at the rear of the home rather
than in the position as outlined in the petition.
(majority decision)
2 . That while the applicants would have to bear some
additional expenses in replacing or extending the
driveway, the cost would not impose a substantial
hardship. (majority decision)
3 . That the applicant would suffer a financial hard-
ship if the existing driveway had to be replaced
and that the location of the garage at the rear
of the home would interfere with the septic sys-
tem located on this portion of the lot.
(dissenting decision)
Since the vote was not unanimous , the petition was denied.
Voting in favor of denial were Chairman Robert C. Buscher
and William Brandt. Voting in support Marianne Zurn.
