Re: Northampton Zoning Ordinance:
Definition of "Townhouse"
Dear Attorney Phillips:
I have received your letter of March 30, 1988, concerning
the proposed development known as Parsons Woods. I have
discussed the development with our senior planner, Larry Smith.
It is our understanding that your client proposes to build multi-
unit buildings in which units will be located side by side and
have separate entrances opening directly to the outside. This
conforms with the definition of "townhouse" in the Northampton
Zoning Ordinance with the exception of the fire wall between
units.
It is the established practice of the Building, Planning and
Law Departments to classify development using the above described
architectural style as townhouse developments. It appears that,
with or without a firewall, your client' s development is a
townhouse development and, under the current ordinance, will
require a variance.
Both Mr. Smith and I will be happy to meet with you to
discuss this issue. Please feel free to call me.
Very ruly you
