I have arranged for Mr . Neil Montgomery from Philadelphia who is a registered professional engineer in the State of Massachusetts to come to this area on Wednesday, May 14 , 1980 . In his possession at that time will be all of the design calculations for the building that we erected in the Industrial Park. On that date he will also certify the structure in accordance with your requirements . Many thanks for your patience . Very truly yours , EDWARD J . OILEARY COMPANY, INC. Edward J. I have reviewed the original drawings when the building was originally constructed. I have reviewed them again today prior to my inspection. The structural steel has been erected in conformance with the standards as required by Butler Manufacturing Company. This erection provides for a 30 psf roof live load over the horizontal projection and a 20 psf wind load on the vertical projection. In general, it is my opinion that this building is structurally sound for the load conditions as originally specified and will still carry these loads. As you know, the foundations and building shell were built under a permit obtained during the winter of 1974-1975 . Since an adequate tenant could not be found, the building was never completed. Recently a good tenant has been found, and as a result, we would like to apply for a new permit to complete the building and make the right half of it ready for occupancy. This permit is to cover all work to be done by the O' Leary Company for the building owner, Oldon Realty Trust. This work will be as indicated on the enclosed drawings and will comply with the latest edition of the State Building Code and, briefly, will include the following items : 1. Masonry wall to separate tenant' s area (tenant expects to expand into remaining area in the near future ; there- fore, lintels for future doors will be installed) . 2 . Men' s and women' s toilet facilities . 3. Proper exits and egress complete with required exit and emergency lighting and one ramped entrance . 4. Complete wet sprinkler system. S. So , I have done some calculations comparing the heat loss allowed by the present code with that of the building as it exists today. You can see that the reclaim heat will more than offset the extra loss of the underinsulated building. Therefore , it is apparent that this building will use less new energy to heat than one insulated in compliance with the latest code without reclaiming process heat. Very truly yours , EDWARD J. Please note that per article 2013. 2 we are allowed to evaluate a building' s actual annual energy consumption versus that allowed by the energy code . If the actual annual consumption is not greater than consumption if the building were designed in compliance with articles 2008 . 0 through 2012 . 0 , then the building is deemed as complying with this article . The enclosed calculations were performed in an effort to show that the actual energy consumption meets the above criteria. Since power consumption for lighting and air conditioning is obviously minimal and well within code limits , we have restricted our analysis to building heating only. The enclosed calculations were performed in more detail than those previously sent to you. We have included the roof tower insulation as well as the actual design temperatures in pre- paring these calculations . We have also included the calcula- tions for the unoccupied half of the building. As you can see , the design temperature for the unoccupied half of the building is only 40 degrees F , while the half occupied by Norton will be kept at 65 degrees F during working hours and 55 degrees F at night . Since these temperatures are sub- stantially lower than the 72 degrees F allowed by the code , our total annual energy consumption compares quite favorably with that allowed by the code . Please note that the recovery of waste heat from manufacturing processes will be used to supply a good portion of the heat required. Norton will start manufacturing (with subsequent waste heat recovery) on or about October 1, which is at the very beginning of the heating season. BUTLER, BUILDER +.
