Javier,
I have signed the permit and it is ready to pick up. Out office hours are 8:30-4:30. I've approved the permit under
the conditions allowed by IEBC section 101.5, exception:
101.5 Compliance methods. The repair, alteration, change of
occupancy, addition or relocation of all existing buildings shall
comply with one of the methods listed in Sections 101.5.1
through 101.5.3 as selected by the applicant. Application of a
method shall be the sole basis for assessing the compliance of
work performed under a single permit unless otherwise
approved by the code official. Sections 101.5.1 through 101.5.3
shall not be applied in combination with each other. Where this
code requires consideration of the seismic-force-resisting system
of an existing building subject to repair, alteration, change
of occupancy, addition or relocation of existing buildings, the
seismic evaluation and design shall be based on Section 101.5.4
regardless of which compliance method is used.
Exception: Subject to the approval of the code official, alterations
complying with the laws in existence at the time the
building or the affected portion of the buildingwas built shall
be considered in compliance with the provisions of this code
unless the building is undergoing more than a limited structural
alteration as defined in Section 807.4.3. New structural
members added as part of the alteration shall complywith the
International Building Code. Alterations of existing buildings
in flood hazard areas shall complywith Section 601.3.

Hi Ed,
First thing this morning I submitted the plans to the City of Northampton for permit. I spoke to the
building commissioner and very courteously made him aware that we were hoping to start this
project very soon. Of course, he would not commit to a date other that we’ll have the permit
“soon”, and to check back with them towards the end of the week.
He did request the following two items:
· Electronic copies of the drawings
· A code review letter from the Architect. He did mention that he understands that this is not a
big project, but he still needs the letter. If you can request this letter from Gensler and email it
back to me that would be great.
Please note that he called me after I got back to my office requesting the code review letter and
he did mention that he had already reviewed the drawings. So I think if we can get him the above
two items we should see the permit pretty soon.

I’ll be helping out with expediting the permit for the Northampton project. The City of Northampton
requires owner authorization when applying for a permit.
I have attached an owner authorization letter already filled out for the project. Would you mind
signing and printing on your letterhead and emailing it back to me. Or if you have your own letter
that’s fine too. As Andy noted below, I wanted to take it in tomorrow morning.
