Dan gainer Dear Tonv:

Fd°h"dp• WUk This letter is a follow-up to our previous telephone
ENGINEERING ASSOCIATES conversation relative to the designation of the
llmlam Y. Barry.P.S. Hospital ' s existing Laboratory areas as a suite as
Ronald G. Stenlund.P.1ti. per N.F.P .A. (101) Life Safety Code, Chapter 13 .
Chapter 13 , Paragraph 13-2. 5. 4 , of the Life Safety
Code allows for suites of rooms in hospitals that
are not designated for sleeping purposes to be
designated as "suites" . This terminology allows the
departmental area to be sub-divided by non-fire-
rated, noncombustible partitions . Please see the
attached copy of the Life Safety Code Handbook for
your review.
The Hospital would like to designate its existing
Laboratory, which exists on two floors of the old
Shepard Wing, as suite areas . The areas in question
meet the requirements for a suite area, i .e . :
1 . Less than 10 , 000 square feet in area.
2 . ;Maximum travel distance of 50 feet from
anywhere in the suite to a corridor door or
exit .
The Hospital would install new fire-rated doors ,
frames and hardware at the main Hospital corridor
that services the Shepard Wing to fire-separate the
area off as a suite on the Ground Floor level and
the First Floor level .
