Patillo, CBO Building Commissioner 212 Main Street— Room 100 Northampton, MA 01060- 3189 Dear Mr. Patillo: On Monday September 20, 2004 the hospital will begin Phase one of the infrastructure project. As you know this work is the installation of utility piping to supply the new wing. Our schedule is to complete this work in January 15, 2005. During the Four phases of construction the road that accesses the back of the hospital will be closed to thru traffic. On Tuesday September 14, 2004 1 meet with Fire Chief Duggan regarding the exact locations for the road blockage. Chief Duggan has approved the barrier location based on building access for fire equipment. The hospital will be supplying the Fire Department with a map that provides the locations of the barriers and the length of time required for the completion of each phase of the infrastructure project. Chief Duggan is satisfied with 8.5 x 11 drawing that he can share with his watch command. As a result of changes at the receiving dock area that were required to allow 24 x 7 access to the receiving area a fire hydrant presently located at the road edge by parking lot "B" is in conflict with the passage of tractor-trailer traffic. I have spoken with Chief Duggan about temporarily removing this fire hydrant during phase one and reinstalling the hydrant during phase two in a location of his choice. He has agreed to this action and has indicated on a map his new desired location and CDH is currently in the process of taking out the required fire department permit. As a follow-up to our annunciator panel meeting a few weeks ago Chief Duggan and I have spoken about the direction the hospital has been taking in an effort to provide documents that show exit routes and large area's that can then be used to pin point specific equipment addresses. This is work that needs to be accomplished in preparation for the LED alarm indicator that will be installed at the FACP. We expect to complete the verification and have large-scale drawings available for to the Fire Department to review by the end of September. The chief has also requested that we label all activation devices with 1" x 1" red tags with white letters that identify the device address number which is the same number that will appear on the FACP. All newly installed devices will be label per his request and we will be working to convert all existing devices to this same system If you have any questions please don't hesitate to give me a call Sincerely orm Welch Director of Facilities
